{"id":590265,"date":"2024-06-27T11:18:24","date_gmt":"2024-06-27T18:18:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=590265"},"modified":"2024-06-27T11:18:24","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T18:18:24","slug":"manhattan-hires-brian-hansbury-as-head-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/manhattan-hires-brian-hansbury-as-head-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Manhattan Hires Brian Hansbury as Head Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Manhattan Hires Brian Hansbury as Head Coach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Manhattan on Monday announced the hiring of <strong>Brian Hansbury<\/strong> as its head swimming and diving coach.<\/p>\n<p>Hansbury is relatively short on college coaching experience, but he has a long history in the greater New York City area, in the high school and club scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t be here without the support of Athletic Director Irma Garcia, Deputy Athletic Director Anthony Kurtin, and Senior Associate Athletic Director of Compliance Ann Gulino,\u201d Hansbury said <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/news\/2024\/6\/24\/mens-swimming-diving-brian-hansbury-named-swimming-diving-coach.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a university statement<\/a>. \u201cWhen I first met them and heard of their plan for Manhattan College and the swimming and diving program, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">College Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hansbury is a native of White Plains who still holds program records at White Plains High School in the 200 free and 500 free. He swam at the University of Florida, graduating in 1999 with a bachelor\u2019s degree in history. His father, uncle and two brothers all graduated from Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p>Hansbury\u2019s experience has taken him all over the New York Metro Area. His only previous college coaching sting was from 2002-07 as an assistant coach at Iona University. He transitioned to a volunteer role with the university while leading the GAEL Aquatic Club based at the college from 2007-15.<\/p>\n<p>Hansbury was the head coach at Iona Prep High School from 2000-02 and Horace Greeley High in 2001. Since 2019, Hansbury has been the associate head coach of Empire Swimming club in White Plains, a role he will maintain while leading the Jaspers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are fortunate to have a coach of Brian\u2019s caliber and experience lead us into a new era of Manhattan College Swim and Dive,\u201d athletic director Irma Garcia said. \u201cWe are confident that Brian will do everything he can to help our talented swimmers and divers accomplish their goals both in the classroom and in the pool.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Manhattan Hires Brian Hansbury as Head Coach Manhattan on Monday announced the hiring of Brian Hansbury as its head swimming and diving coach.
