U.S. Olympic Trials: Two More Finals Before Team is Named (Day 9 Finals Heat Sheet)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The U.S. Olympic Trials will conclude with one last finals session Sunday evening, with the women’s 50 freestyle and men’s 1500 freestyle finals scheduled before the Olympic team is officially named.<\/p>\n

Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> and\u00a0Torri Huske<\/strong> are the favorites in the women’s 50 free, with both swimmers going 24.0s in the semifinal round. Walsh and Huske previously finished 1-2 in the 100 butterfly while Huske was second and Walsh third in the 100 free.\u00a0Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> and\u00a0Simone Manuel<\/strong>, the swimmers who have represented the U.S. in the event at the last two Olympic Trials, will be in lanes three and six, respectively, as they try to knock off the younger stars.<\/p>\n

Bobby Finke<\/strong> is the big favorite in the men’s 1500 freestyle, with the defending Olympic champion and American-record holder looking to secure a spot in the mile as well as the 800 free. The battle for be for second place, with teenager\u00a0Luke Whitlock<\/strong> the only other swimmer in the field who has already done enough to reach Paris. Whitlock will be in lane 6, while Charlie Clark<\/strong> (lane 3) and\u00a0David Johnston<\/strong> (lane 5) look like true contenders.<\/p>\n

After the night’s two races are complete, USA Swimming will announced the full roster of the Olympic team as well as the coaching staff that will accompany the group of almost 50 athletes to Paris.<\/p>\n
