TEMPE, Arizona, July 13. CARTHAGE College men’s swimming coach Greg Earhart has resigned to become the associate head coach for both men’s and women’s swimming at Arizona State University. Earhart compiled a 73-37 dual-meet record in 12 years at Carthage and was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin’s “Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year” in 2002, 2006 and 2010 and CCIW “Co-Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year” in both 2004 and 2012.<\/p>\n
In 2007, Earhart was named American Swimming Coaches Association “Coach of Excellence,” and in 2008, he received the College Swimming Coaches Association of America “National Collegiate and Scholastic Swimming Trophy.” Earhart, the youngest-ever recipient of the latter award, is only the sixth NCAA Division III member to receive the award in its 50-year history.<\/p>\n
Earhart began his Carthage-coaching career in 2002 following six successful seasons as an assistant coach at both Indiana University (1998-2001) and the University of Minnesota (1995-98). Earhart helped Indiana return to national and Big Ten prominence. During his tenure, the Hoosiers broke every school record, earned 24 NCAA Division I All-American awards and gained two spots on United States national teams. At Minnesota, Earhart helped the Gophers to two second-place finishes at the Big Ten Swimming Championship, coached 16 NCAA Division I All-Americans, and one national champion and United States record-holder.<\/p>\n
An active member of USA Swimming, Earhart served as director of the 2001 Regional Distance Camp and marshal for the 2000 Olympic Trials. He is also a past-chair of the Wisconsin Swimming Technical Planning Committee.<\/p>\n
A native of Ralston, Neb., and a product of a NCAA Division III himself, Earhart set three school records and graduated with degrees in history and political science from Buena Vista University in 1993. He earned his master’s degree in public policy from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota in 1997. In addition to his duties as swimming coach, Earhart is a founder and co-owner of CollegeSwimming.com. He is also a member of the National Mountain Bike Patrol and has completed three ultramarathons.<\/p>\n
