U.S. Olympic Trials: Kate Douglass Wins 200 Breast; Lilly King Gets Engaged After Finishing Second<\/strong><\/p>\n

Every event at the U.S. Olympic Trials is loaded with talent, but the women’s 200 breaststroke has a triumvirate of stars who could each win Olympic gold in the event.<\/p>\n

Kate Douglass, Lilly King<\/strong> and Alex Walsh<\/strong> are all that talented.<\/p>\n

But in the end, it was Douglass with the event win and King with the life win as she got engaged following the race after earning a spot on the Olympic team.<\/p>\n

Back to the race.<\/p>\n

It has the feelings of the men’s sprint events a generation ago when only two spots were available for Nathan Adrian, Anthony Ervin<\/strong> and Cullen Jones<\/strong>. Two of them were going to make it and medal in both the 100 and 50 free. The other one wasn’t going to make the team.<\/p>\n

Same situation with the women’s 200 breaststroke.<\/p>\n

The first 50 went to Douglass in 31.58, just ahead of King. Douglass continued her long stroke to build a lead at the 100at 1:06.93 as Walsh and King turned nearly even.<\/p>\n

As Douglass pulled away, the battle for second continued. Walsh was second at the 150 mark, which happened in semis before King overtook her late.<\/p>\n

This time, King did it again, passing Walsh in the final 10 meters to take the second spot.<\/p>\n

Douglass set the meet record in 2:19.46. King was second in 2:21.93 and Walsh got to the wall third in 2:22.38.<\/p>\n

Ella Nelson<\/strong> took fourth in 2:23.95 a strong finish at the Olympic Trials.<\/p>\n
