French Trials, Day 5 Finals: Mewen Tomac Sets French 200 Back Record & Florent Manaudou Books Paris Ticket<\/h4>\n

Mewen Tomac<\/strong> set a French 200m backstroke record of 1:55.54 on the penultimate day of the French Championships in Chartres.<\/p>\n

Tomac took 0.08 from the previous mark of 1:55.62 set by Yohann Ndoye Brouard<\/strong> en-route to the European title at Roma 2022 while shaving 0.25 from his previous best of 1:55.79 from the 2023 worlds in Fukuoka.<\/p>\n

Ndoye Brouard was second, 0.94 adrift in 1:56.48, with both men well inside the Paris cut of 1:57.50.<\/p>\n

Florent Manaudou<\/strong> booked his ticket for a home Games as he seeks to clinch a 50 free medal at his fourth straight Olympics.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old set a season’s best of 21.52 in prelims before returning for the final where he was 0.02 slower in 21.54.<\/p>\n

Maxime Grousset<\/strong> was next home in 21.67 – 0.01 slower than prelims – with both men comfortably inside the 21.96 QT.<\/p>\n

Anastasia Kirpichnikova<\/strong> added the 800 free to her Paris programme with victory 0.33 inside the cut in 8:26.38.<\/p>\n

She adds the 800 to the 400 and 1500 that she will also contest in the French capital.<\/p>\n

Lara Grangeon-De Villele<\/strong> won the 200 fly in 2:09.26 albeit 0.83 outside the cut of 2:08.43 she needed to ensure a swim in front of a hone crowd.<\/p>\n
