Olympic Trials Day 6 Prelims: Isabelle Stadden Claims Top Seed in Women’s 200 Backstroke<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The strong women’s backstroke tradition continues with the 200 backstroke on Thursday at the U.S. Olympic Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

The way Regan Smith<\/strong> has been swimming, it could be a slew of contenders competing for that second Olympic spot.<\/p>\n

But they are seasoned contenders. Katie Grimes, Phoebe Bacon, Claire Curzan<\/strong> and Rhyan White<\/strong> are Olympians, while Kennedy Noble<\/strong> was third in the 100 backstroke earlier in the week and Isabelle Stadden<\/strong> is always in contention in the 200 back.<\/p>\n

In the first circle-seeded heat, Stadden took the early lead. She reached the 100 at 1:02.25 just ahead of White. That trend continued as Stadden touched the wall in 2:08.53. White was just behind at 2:09.66.<\/p>\n

The second circle-seeded heat saw Josephine Fuller take the lead at the 50. But at the 100, it was Curzan at 1:02.26 in front. Curzan touched in 2:08.90 ahead of Bacon (2:09.14).<\/p>\n

The final heat saw Noble lead at the 50. Grimes took the lead at the 100 and the 150. Grimes won the heat in 2:08.68. Smith was second in 2:09.30.<\/p>\n

But it was Stadden that had the top seed overall at 2:08.53.<\/p>\n
