GATOR Swim Club teammates Dan Wallace and Eduardo Solaeche-Gomez each won their second event of the meet this evening during the third night of finals at the Southern Zone South Sectional meet at the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando. Clara Smiddy, Sebastien Rousseau, Justine Bowker, Natalie Hinds, Bradley DeBorde and Stephanie Peacock also closed out the night with victories in hand.

Clara Smiddy of the AquaKids Sharks took home the first individual title up for grabs tonight with a stellar 1:01.69 in the women’s 100 back, slightly off her personal best of 1:00.51. Katie Hoff of Hurricane Aquatics earned her second runner-up finish of the meet with a second place effort of 1:02.50, just .01 ahead of Club Seminole’s Sviatlana Khakhlova (1:02.51). Sebastien Rousseau of Gator Swim Club claimed the men’s 100 back title by a slim margin, 55.33 to 55.68, over Club Seminole’s Pavel Sankovich. Tristan Sanders of the Palm Harbor YMCA Piranhas came in third in 56.39.

The women’s 200 IM final featured a couple of big names, including T2 Aquatics’ Justine Bowker and Bluefish’s Elizabeth Beisel. After winning the 400 IM last night, Beisel couldn’t quite match the speed of Bowker, who took the shorter distance in 2:15.70. Beisel touched a little over six-tenths behind in 2:16.35, while Swim Fort Lauderdale’s Lindsey McKnight placed third in 2:17.63. Men’s 400 IM champ Eduardo Solaeche-Gomez of Gator Swim Club swept the IM events after posting a time of 2:00.74 in the men’s 200 IM tonight. Teammate Diago Decarvalho touched about two seconds later in 2:02.58, while Metro Aquatic Club of Miami’s Carlos Omana picked up third in 2:03.36.

City of Midland’s Natalie Hinds recorded a personal best en route to a narrow victory in the women’s 50 free final. Hinds lowered her best time from 25.61 to 25.42 to top Club Seminole’s Sviatlana Khakhlova, who earned another top-three finish with her 25.58. Katie Hoff placed third in 26.21. The men’s sprint final went to Patriot Aquatics’ Bradley DeBorde in 22.98, a slightly slower time than his top-qualifying prelim swim of 22.76. Jason McCormick of Boca Raton Swim Club gave DeBorde a scare, finishing less than a tenth behind in 23.05. Logan Lassley of Westminster Academy came in third at 23.19.

Swim Florida’s Stephanie Peacock and Gator Swim Club’s Jessica Theilmann treated the crowd to a great race in the women’s 400 free final. Theilmann flipped in front at the halfway point, 2:04.70 to 2:05.57, before Peacock surged and touched first in 4:12.00 in a nearly even split race. Theilmann turned in a second place time of 4:12.09. Andreina Pinto, also of Gator Swim Club, touched third in the final in 4:14.05.The men’s 400 free final turned out to be equally exciting. After battling in the 200 free last night, Gator Swim Club teammates Dan Wallace and Andrea D’Arrigo were back at it tonight in the longer distance. Once again, D’Arrigo flipped first at the halfway point, this time by .02. Wallace, however, had the faster back-half, pulling ahead to win in 3:53.03. D’Arrigo, who actually had a faster last 100, came in second at 3:53.40, while St. Petersburg Aquatics’ Nicholas Alexiou touched third in 3:57.66.

T2 Aquatics’ foursome of Elise Haan, Justine Bowker, Kayla Tennant and Abigail Garner brought home the women’s 400 medley relay title to close out the night. They touched in 4:16.19 to outdo Scarlet Aquatics’ Joanna Wu, Greta Leberfinger, Morgan Pfaff and Meghan Kiely (4:19.25). Swim Fort Lauderdale came in third, with Lauren Driscoll, Emily Kopas, Allison Kopas and Lindsey McKnight finishing in 4:19.92. Gator Swim Club touched first in the men’s relay as Jian Wang, Eduardo Solaeche-Gomez, Marcin Cieslak and Pawel Werner touched in 3:44.44. Nikita Tretyakov, Ryan Rosenbaum, Luke Torres and Adam Bull of Swim Fort Lauderdale took second in 3:53.72, followed by Saint Andrew’s Nicholas Sharp, Quinn Cassidy, Kevin Matheus and Gage Kohner in 3:55.06.

Results can be found on the Meet Mobile app.

ORLANDO, Florida, July 12.
