Olympic Trials Day 4 Finals: Nic Fink Stays Alive in Men\u2019s 200 Breaststroke; Fallon Top Seed<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

A tight semifinal heat of the men\u2019s 200-meter breaststroke rounded out night four of Olympic Trials in Indianapolis. With 15 swimmers going under the 2:12 mark this morning to qualify for the event, it was bound to be a tight race across both heats to fight for the top 8 spots in tomorrow\u2019s final.<\/p>\n

As the first heat of the semi-final took shape, Jake Foster<\/strong> took an early lead over the heat but was taken over by Josh Matheny<\/strong>, at the end of the race. Matheny, three time Big Ten champion, won the first heat of the semi-final race with a time of 2:08.79 over Foster which will amount to a third seed in tomorrow\u2019s final event. Foster finished with a time of 2:09.57, which will be good enough to seed him fourth.<\/p>\n

Matheny says “I\u2019m super happy with that for the semifinal. It\u2019s always a pleasure to race some of the best and to get my hand on the wall first was nice tonight. It felt good, it felt strong and it\u2019s a great time, so I can\u2019t complain about that.”<\/p>\n

To close out a fast night of swimming, the second heat of the semifinals for the men\u2019s 100-meter breaststroke NCAA qualifier, Matthew Fallon<\/strong>, had a definitive lead over the pack. He took control of the heat early on and touched with a time of 2:07.39 \u2013 a time that is third in the world rankings. He will be the top seed heading into the event final.<\/p>\n

2021 Olympic Trials qualifier, AJ Pouch<\/strong>, followed suit and finished with a time of 2:08.00, which will place him in the second seed. Daniel Roy<\/strong>, a Stanford record holder, will be seeded fifth with a time of 2:09.65.<\/p>\n

Fresh off his win in the 100-meter breast and being named to the 2024 Paris Olympic team, Nic Fink<\/strong> came in sixth with a time of 2:09.80. Rounding out the top eight will be Indiana commit, Josh Bey<\/strong>, with a time of 2:11.09 and 11-time NCAA champion, Will Licon<\/strong>, with a time of 2:11.14. They will be seeded seventh and eighth respectively.<\/p>\n

Jordan Willis<\/strong> will be the first alternate with a time of 2:11.26 and Charlie Swanson<\/strong> will be the second alternate with a time of 2:11.26.<\/p>\n
