U.S. Olympic Trials: Women’s 100 Back and Men’s 800 Free Finals on Night Four (Heat Sheet)<\/strong><\/p>\n

New U.S. Olympians will be selected in the finals of the women’s 100 backstroke and men’s 800 freestyle Tuesday evening at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis, a session that will also include semifinals of the men’s 100 freestyle, men’s 200 butterfly, women’s 100 freestyle and men’s 200 breaststroke.<\/p>\n

The men’s 100 free semis begin the session, with\u00a0Chris Guiliano\u00a0<\/strong>and Jack Alexy<\/strong> in lane four in their respective semifinal heats after enormous prelims swims. But all eyes will be on\u00a0Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> as he continues his comeback to top form. Dressel races next to Alexy in the second semifinal. Then, the men’s 200 fly will look for a jump in speed after a sluggish prelims round.\u00a0Luca Urlando<\/strong> highlights semifinal one while\u00a0Dare Rose<\/strong> and\u00a0Thomas Heilman<\/strong> join\u00a0Mason Laur<\/strong> in the second heat.<\/p>\n

The first of two finals will see\u00a0Regan Smith<\/strong> continuing to chase a world record in the 100 back after she lowered the American record (which was just weeks old) in the semis. Smith will be next to\u00a0Katharine Berkoff<\/strong>, who became the fourth woman ever to break 58 in the semis.\u00a0Kennedy Noble<\/strong> and\u00a0Josephine Fuller<\/strong> also went sub-59 Monday night.<\/p>\n

Bobby Finke<\/strong> tries to secure his spot on his second Olympic team in the men’s 800 free, but teenager\u00a0Luke Whitlock<\/strong> is actually the top seed after an impressive prelims round. Whitlock was also the top seed in the 400 free final before finishing fifth, but he is better at this distance. Other contenders include\u00a0Ross Dant<\/strong>,\u00a0Will Gallant<\/strong> and\u00a0Charlie Clark<\/strong>, who was scratched into the final after initially missing out Monday morning.<\/p>\n

Two more semifinals conclude the night.\u00a0Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> is in lane four for the first semifinal of the women’s 100 free, with\u00a0Torri Huske<\/strong> alongside her.\u00a0Kate Douglass<\/strong>,\u00a0Simone Manuel<\/strong> and\u00a0Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> have the next heat. And in the men’s 200 breast semis,\u00a0AJ Pouch\u00a0<\/strong>will try to back up his stunning prelims swim in the second semifinal with 2023 World Championships bronze medalist\u00a0Matt Fallon<\/strong> one lane over. The previous heat includes 100 breast qualifiers\u00a0Nic Fink<\/strong> and\u00a0Charlie Swanson<\/strong> along with 2023 Worlds finalist\u00a0Josh Matheny<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
