U.S. Olympic Trials: Chase For Relay Spots Begins in 200 Free (Day 2 Prelims Heat Sheet)<\/strong><\/p>\n

A full slate of events on day two of the U.S. Olympic Trials will include preliminary heats in the men’s 200 freestyle, men’s 400 IM, women’s 100 breaststroke, men’s 100 backstroke and women’s 200 freestyle. The session begins at 11 a.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

The men’s 200 free will feature\u00a0Luke Hobson<\/strong> as the top seed and favorite after he won bronze in the event at this February’s World Championships and then swam the fastest time ever in the 200-yard free at the NCAA Championships. But the three circle-seeded heats will feature plenty of strong contenders to qualify for the 800 free relay, including\u00a0Drew Kibler<\/strong> alongside Hobson and\u00a0Kieran Smith<\/strong> and\u00a0Jake Mitchell<\/strong> one heat earlier.<\/p>\n

Carson Foster<\/strong> remains entered in the 200 free, but don’t be surprised if he skips the event to focus on the 400 IM, where he is the top seed and favorite after winning silver at the 2022 and 2023 World Championships. Foster will swim next to two-time Olympian and 2021 silver medalist Jay Litherland<\/strong> in the final heat while defending Olympic gold medalist Chase Kalisz<\/strong> is in the middle of the pool with\u00a0David Johnston<\/strong> in the prior heat.<\/p>\n

Lilly King<\/strong> makes her Trials debut int he women’s 100 breast, swimming in the final heat after defending Olympic gold medalist Lydia Jacoby<\/strong> is in the previous heat.\u00a0Alex Walsh<\/strong> will also swim for the first time at this Trials, next to King in the final heat.<\/p>\n

Ryan Murphy<\/strong> and\u00a0Hunter Armstrong<\/strong> each swim in lane for in their respective 100 back heats, with Murphy racing next to Cal teammate\u00a0Destin Lasco<\/strong>, a member of last year’s Worlds team.<\/p>\n

Fresh off qualifying for her fourth Olympic team in the women’s 400 free,\u00a0Katie Ledecky<\/strong> is the top seed in the 200 free, with\u00a0Erin Gemmell<\/strong>,\u00a0Anna Peplowski<\/strong> and\u00a0Katie Grimes<\/strong> the big names joining her in the final heat. Claire Weinstein<\/strong> and\u00a0Bella Sims<\/strong> each occupy lane four for their respective prelim heats, and both will be looking to rebound after rough performances in the 400 free where they did not make the final.\u00a0Paige Madden<\/strong> will be next to Weinstein after she qualified for her second Olympic team in the 400 free while\u00a0Simone Manuel<\/strong> swims for the first time in Indianapolis next to Sims.<\/p>\n
