PHOENIX, Arizona, July 9. TWO of the top high school swimmers in the country stood atop the mountain in the 200-yard freestyle this year on the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association All-American lists. Stone Ridge’s Katie Ledecky, the premiere distance swimmer in the world, and Clay’s Caeleb Dressel put in the best 200-yard freestyles in high school competition this past year.<\/p>\n

As part of one of the best high school swimming performances in history at the D.C. Metro High School Championships, Ledecky took down the girls 200-yard freestyle mark with a stunning 1:42.38. That swim edged the 1:42.81 set by Dagny Knutson back in 2008.<\/p>\n

\n<\/iframe><\/p>\nThe swim came the day after Ledecky’s jaw-dropping American record in the 500-yard freestyle, which will be featured fully later this week.<\/p>\nMeanwhile, Dressel put up the fastest 200-yard free time in the country by a full second with his 1:34.69 at the Florida State 2A High School Championships. The swim was part of an impressive evening of action in Stuart, Fla. Dressel broke the 50-yard free national record with a 19.29 leadoff on the 200 free relay, and also won the 100 fly in 45.99. He threw in a 43.39 leadoff leg in the 400 free relay as well.<\/p>\nWe don’t have video of Dressel’s 200-yard free swim, but here’s a fun clip of his club team (Bolles) watching him win gold at the 2013 FINA World Junior Championships last summer: \n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V8HtQUIFIfA\" width=\"465\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\nAlthough Ledecky and Dressel were head-and-shoulders above the rest of the country in the 200 frees this year, there was still some pretty impressive swims going on throughout the rest of the country.
