FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 8. TOM Malchow achieved much in his career as an elite swimmer, including two Olympic medals and the world record in the 200 butterfly. Now, he can add International Swimming Hall of Fame member to that list.<\/p>\n
Malchow was the best 200 butterflyer in the world for nearly four years before being supplanted by Michael Phelps in 2001. Malchow’s illustrious time at the top of the mountain began after winning silver in the 200 fly at the 1996 Olympics. He would upgrade that to gold in 2000.<\/p>\n
In his induction speech last month, Malchow spoke of “the people that I surrounded myself with, and have supported me throughout my career,” from the coaches who helped push him to the top of swimming’s highest honor to the teammates who challenged him.<\/p>\n
