contenders into tonight\u2019s 100m freestyle final in Brisbane, a next gen group he hopes to spearhead into the Olympic arena in six weeks time \u2013 with just half a second separating the field &#8211; chasing a QT of 48.06.<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old Rio Olympic champion and Tokyo silver medallist from is only one of two Olympians in the top eight \u2013 with Tokyo relay specialist, former Western Australian, <strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Zac Incerti<\/strong> &#8211; now <\/span><\/strong>on<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Queensland Sunshine Coast with Chalmers.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chalmers (St Andrews, QLD) won the opening heat in 48.39 from Sydney\u2019s in form <strong>Will Yang<\/strong> (SOSC, NSW) 48.50 with Incerti (USC Spartans, QLD), qualifying fifth fastest in 48.78, finishing second in heat two behind <strong>Flynn Southam<\/strong> (Bond, QLD) 48.64.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With <strong>Jamie Jack<\/strong> (St Peters Western, QLD), the 21-year-old sister of female sprint ace <strong>Shayna Jack,<\/strong> winning heat three in 48.69.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jack is one of three St Peters Western swimmers in the field with <strong>Kai Taylor<\/strong> 48.81 (fourth in the 200m final and in contention for the relay) joined by another World Championship relay gold medallist <strong>Jack Cartwright<\/strong>, 48.73.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Former Tasmanian, <strong>Max Giuliani<\/strong> (Miami, QLD) 48.90, the 200m winner and Paris qualifier, rounding out the top eight.<\/p>\n<p>The hard luck story was <strong>Cody Simpson<\/strong> (Griffith University, QLD) in 49.04, a touch outside his best, who finished ninth &#8211; missing the final by one place and 0.14 &#8211; but a solid hit out as he prepares for his pet event, the 100m butterfly
