GLASGOW, Scotland, July 7. MADISON Wilson and Lakeisha Patterson have been named on the Australian Swim Team for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games replacing the injured Meagen Nay and Jacqui Freney.<\/p>\n
As Commonwealth Games debutants, Wilson and Patterson will join the 59-strong swim team for Glasgow when they assemble for a pre-Games staging camp in Manchester next Sunday 13 July.
\nAustralian Commonwealth Games Association CEO Perry Crosswhite said Wilson and Patterson will be welcomed to the team when the swimmers arrive in Glasgow on Sunday 20 July.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s disappointing for both Meagen and Jacqui to miss the Games due to injury, especially this close to the start of competition, and we wish both athletes well in their recovery,\u201d said Crosswhite. \u201cWe welcome Madison and Lakeisha to the team and wish them all the best in what will be their first Commonwealth Games for Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n
A backstroke swimmer who has represented Australia at junior level, Glasgow will be Wilson\u2019s first senior Australian Swim team, while 15-year-old Patterson who will swim the Parasport 100m freestyle and had already been selected for the Para Pan Pacs in August.<\/p>\n
Swimming Australia Performance Director Michael Scott said while not ideal to be replacing athletes at this late stage, he is happy with how the team is finalising their preparations for Glasgow.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously it\u2019s very disappointing for Meagen and Jacqui having performed so well at the Trials to earn selection, but both athletes have made a decision for the long term not to risk any further injury by competing in Scotland.<\/p>\n
\u201cMeagen has been dealing with a shoulder injury for some time now, and the break will do her good, while Jacqui has missed some training due to fatigue and will shift her focus to the Para Pan Pacs in August .\u201d<\/p>\n
Both Wilson and Patterson will join the team in Manchester from next Sunday.<\/p>\n
