The action takes place from June 15-23, with swimmers putting their hopes and dreams on the line for the opportunity to represent Team USA at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>These previews are part of a comprehensive Trials edition of Swimming World, which is set to be released next week.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2024-us-olympic-trials-indianapolis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Full Meet Coverage<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/about-usas\/resources\/trials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More Information<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2024-us-olympic-trials-psych-sheet-updated-usa-senior-national-2024-06-15.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Psych Sheet<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>MEN\u2019S 400 FREESTYLE<\/h2>\n<p>The first final of the Olympic Trials will be the weakest event in the United States in recent years, the only individual event out of 34 contested at last year\u2019s World Championships in which no American qualified for the final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kieran Smith<\/strong> has the best credentials of anyone in the field, with an Olympic bronze medal in this event from the Tokyo Olympics, but Smith has not approached the 3:43-territory that won him an Olympic medal since then.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Johnston<\/strong> was the winner of the event at U.S. Nationals last year, while <strong>Jake Mitchell<\/strong> was an Olympic finalist in Tokyo after he made the team in dramatic fashion, not achieving the Olympic \u201cA\u201d cut until a solo time trial midway through Olympic Trials.<\/p>\n<p>There have been indications that <strong>Carson Foster<\/strong>, better known for his medley and butterfly swimming, will throw his name into the 400 free. Ledecky has hit marks in the 3:58-range each of the last two years, and her final tune-up race before Olympic Trials produced another sub-4:00 effort, which is quicker than any other American in history. The only question here will be how Ledecky\u2019s Trials time compares to what her rivals reach at their domestic selection meets.<\/p>\n<p>As for other contenders, <strong>Leah Smith<\/strong> has been a medalist behind Ledecky at the 2016 Olympics and three World Championships, although she is coming off a labrum injury earlier this year, while <strong>Bella Sims<\/strong> was a finalist at last year\u2019s Worlds. <strong>Paige Madden<\/strong>, an Olympic finalist in 2021, has been resurgent in 2024.
