{"id":585906,"date":"2024-05-23T11:32:12","date_gmt":"2024-05-23T18:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=585906"},"modified":"2024-05-23T11:32:12","modified_gmt":"2024-05-23T18:32:12","slug":"georgia-southern-names-morgan-mccafferty-head-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/georgia-southern-names-morgan-mccafferty-head-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Georgia Southern Names Morgan McCafferty Head Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Georgia Southern Names Morgan McCafferty Head Coach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Morgan McCafferty<\/strong> has been named the head coach of the Georgia Southern women\u2019s swimming and diving team.<\/p>\n<p>A former standout at the University of Nebraska, McCafferty spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Idaho.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thank you to Jared Benko, Brandy Clouse, Chris Davis, and the entire search committee for the commitment to its swimming and diving program,&#8221; McCafferty said <a href=\"https:\/\/gseagles.com\/news\/2024\/5\/22\/morgan-mccafferty-hired-as-georgia-southern-head-swimming-and-diving-coach.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a university statement<\/a>. &#8220;I&#8217;m honored to be named the next head coach of Georgia Southern University and to continue the development of its student-athletes in and out of the pool. Statesboro is a very special place, and I can&#8217;t wait to get there to get to work!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At Idaho, McCafferty helped the Vandals set seven program records in three years. Among her pupils was <strong>Zoe Froh,<\/strong> who qualified for Canadian Swimming Trials in 2022. McCafferty directed Idaho&#8217;s program logistics, ran practices and coordinated recruiting.<\/p>\n<p>The native of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten at Indiana. As a senior, the Cornhuskers achieved their best Big Ten Championships finish, and she qualified for 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. She received her bachelor\u2019s degree in history and a master\u2019s in higher education administration from Nebraska.<\/p>\n<p>McCafferty began coaching with age-groupers at Club Husker, as an assistant at Pius X High School and with Midwestern Swimming. She served as Nebraska\u2019s director of operations for two seasons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Morgan McCafferty as our new swimming and diving head coach,&#8221; director of athletics <strong>Jared Benko<\/strong> said. &#8220;Morgan brings a dynamic energy and a proven track record of leading in the sport of swimming and diving.
