Germany Nominates 24 Pool Swimmers For Paris 2024: Names Team For European Championships In Belgrade<\/h4>\n

Lukas M\u00e4rtens<\/strong> is among 24 pool swimmers – 15 men and nine women – nominated by the German Swimming Association<\/strong> (DSV) for the Olympic Games<\/strong> in Paris.<\/p>\n

The German Olympic Confederation will confirm the selections by 4 June with the Paris 2024<\/strong> pool programme getting underway on 27 July.<\/p>\n

M\u00e4rtens marked himself out as a title contender<\/a> in the French capital when he went 3:40.33 in the 400 free at last month’s German Championships in Berlin, just 0.26secs outside\u00a0Paul Biedermann\u2019s<\/strong> world record of 3:40.07 that has stood since the 2009 supersuit era.<\/p>\n

With that, he went fourth in the all-time rankings and stands clear at the top of the 2024 rankings.<\/p>\n

He followed that up with victories in the 200 free (PB 1:44.14) and 200 back (PB 1:56.00) as well as taking third in the 100 free.<\/p>\n

Also nominated are Florian Wellbrock<\/strong>, 1500 bronze medallist in Tokyo who is also set to compete in the open water, and Josha Salchow<\/strong>, who set a national 100 free record<\/a> of 47.85 at the Berlin Swim Open.<\/p>\n

Angelina K\u00f6hler,\u00a0<\/b>100 fly winner at the 2024 World Championships, and Isobel Gose<\/strong> – triple medallist in Doha over 400\/800\/1500 free – as well as M\u00e4rtens’ sister Leonie<\/strong>, are among the women nominated.<\/p>\n

DSV sports director Christian Hansmann<\/strong> said:<\/p>\n

“We are pleased to be able to propose a powerful line-up for Team Germany after a qualification with many top performances, German records and best times and will provide our athletes with the greatest possible support on their way to Paris.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A 24-strong squad has also been announced for the European Aquatics Championships<\/strong> in Belgrade, Serbia, has also been announced.<\/p>\n

Six athletes – Nicole Maier<\/strong>,\u00a0Luca Nik Armbruster<\/strong>,\u00a0Melvin Imoudu<\/strong>,\u00a0Lucas Matzerath<\/strong>,\u00a0Artem Selin<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Peter Varjasi\u00a0<\/strong>– who will compete in Paris will also appear in the Serbian capital where the pool programme runs from 17-23 June.<\/p>\n

“This summer’s European Championships are also a target competition for active athletes, from whom we hope to take further steps in development with regard to the following Olympic cycle until 2028,” said Hansmann.<\/p>\n
