McIntosh\u2019s time of 1:56.78 is an Olympic qualifying cut.<\/p>\n<p>Second was <strong>Mary-Sophie Harvey<\/strong> in 1:57.65. But the other mainstays in the program were farther afield.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/results.swimming.ca\/2024_Olympic_Paralympic_Trials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Olympic Trials Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/summer-mcintosh-set-for-seven-events-at-next-weeks-canadian-trials-psych-sheet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Psych Sheets<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/canadian-olympic-trials-six-stories-to-watch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Olympic Trials Start Monday: Six Stories to Watch<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/canadian-olympic-trials-night-1-summer-mcintosh-opens-with-world-best-359-04-in-400-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Night 1 finals<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Rebecca Smith,<\/strong> who swam in the 800 free relay in Tokyo, was eighth in prelims. <strong>Brooklyn Douthwright,<\/strong> who swam at the 2023 World Championships was ninth. Relay mate <strong>Emma O\u2019Croinin<\/strong> was fifth.<\/p>\n<p>That was better than the established Olympians. <strong>Penny Oleksiak,<\/strong> the most decorated Olympian in Canadian history, finished 10th in 2:00.16 to barely scrape into the A final. That was one spot better than <strong>Katerine Savard<\/strong> in 2:00.55. <strong>Taylor Ruck,<\/strong> who entered seeded 17th, scratched the event.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the morning, <strong>Sophie Angus<\/strong> set the pace in a crowded women\u2019s 100 breast with five swimmers clustered within three tenths. Angus went 1:07.12. <strong>Kelsey Wog<\/strong> was a tenth back, followed by <strong>Shona Branton, Sydney Pickrem<\/strong> and <strong>Alexanne Lepage,<\/strong> the latter in 1:07.32. The Olympic A cut is 1:06.79.<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side, <strong>Tristan Jakovics<\/strong> led the way in the men\u2019s 400 IM in 4:15.68. He was ahead of <strong>Lorne Wigginton<\/strong> (4:19.74). Wiggington was the top seed some seven seconds quicker, his seed of 4:12.81 within .31 of the A cut that he\u2019ll presumably chase at night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blake Tierney<\/strong> led the way in the men\u2019s 100 back in 53.93 ahead of <strong>Aiden Norman.<\/strong> The A cut is 53.74. Tierney has been 53.65.<\/p>\n<p>In Para events, <strong>Carle Giammichele<\/strong> went 1:23.89 in the men\u2019s 100 breaststroke.
