AUBURN, Alabama, June 29. THE Richard Quick Invitational closed the curtains tonight on the 2014 edition with an Icelandic record by Anton McKee.<\/p>\n
McKee nipped the Icelandic record in the men’s 200-meter breast with a 2:12.38 for the win. That swim beat the previous mark of 2:12.39 set by Jakob Johann Sveinsson at the 2009 World Championships. That’s McKee’s sixth long course record for Iceland. Auburn’s Michael Duderstadt took second in 2:18.82 with SwimAtlanta’s JP Portillo finishing third in 2:26.52.<\/p>\n
Baylor’s Sam McHugh dominated the men’s 200-meter back with a 2:04.47 as he won yet another title here in Auburn. SwimAtlanta’s Aidan Sweeney placed second in 2:08.38 with Slater Whiston capturing third overall in 2:09.75.<\/p>\n
DADS’ Alexandra Buscher, 16, took two seconds off her personal best in the women’s 200-meter back with a winning time of 2:20.60. That’s well ahead of her 2:22.97 from the 2013 Swim Fort Lauderdale International meet from almost a year ago to the day. Nicole Smith took second in 2:22.40 with Buscher’s teammate Elizabeth Jordana finishing third in 2:23.06.<\/p>\n
Olympic medalist Amanda Weir asserted herself in the women’s 100-meter free with a 56.06 for the victory. Auburn’s Allyx Purcell finished second in the event with a 57.65, while Bailey Scott snared third in 57.84. The men’s 100-meter free proved to be exciting with NYAC’s Adam Brown clipped Auburn’s Marcelo Chierighini for the win, 49.84 to 49.96. Auburn’s James Disney-May wound up third in the finale with a 50.25.<\/p>\n
Kaylin Burchell hit the wall in 2:31.09 as she controlled the women’s 200-meter breaststroke the entire heat. Laura Day posted a distant second-place effort of 2:36.79 with Auburn’s Beatriz Travalon taking third in 2:41.07.<\/p>\n
SwimAtlanta’s Haley McInerny edged Justine Panian for the women’s 100-meter fly title, 1:02.24 to 1:02.71. Rachel Dover finished third in the finale with a 1:03.04. Will Glass popped a 54.55 to win the men’s 100-meter fly, while McHugh finished second in 55.81. Cam Jones earned third-place honors in 56.27.<\/p>\n
