{"id":585014,"date":"2024-05-05T15:15:25","date_gmt":"2024-05-05T22:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=585014"},"modified":"2024-05-05T16:30:35","modified_gmt":"2024-05-05T23:30:35","slug":"flavor-flav-pledges-support-to-us-womens-water-polo-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flavor-flav-pledges-support-to-us-womens-water-polo-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Flavor Flav Pledges Support to U.S. Women&#8217;s Water Polo Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Flavor Flav Pledges Support to US Women&#8217;s Water Polo team<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hip hop artist <strong>Flavor Flav h<\/strong>as pledged his support for the U.S. Women&#8217;s Water Polo Team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The US Women&#8217;s Waterpolo team has won the GOLD MEDAL THREE OLYMPICS IN A ROW,&#8221; Flav wrote on X. &#8220;These women should not have to be working 2-3 side jobs to be able to compete.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It started with a post by three-time gold medalist <strong>Maggie Steffens<\/strong> posting about players being in need of financial support leading up to the Paris Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most Olympians need a 2nd (or 3rd) job to support chasing the dream (myself included!),&#8221; Steffens wrote on Instagram. &#8220;We always need more help.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Just a few hours later, Flavor Flav, a founding member of Public Enemy, a pioneering hip hop group responded.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a girl dad and supporter of all women&#8217;s sports &#8211; imma personally sponsor you my girl,&#8221; Flav posted. &#8220;Whatever you need. And imma sponsor the whole team.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Having financial stability has often been an issue for Olympics who have to balance training and life, and often other jobs to be able to maintain their training.<\/p>\n<p>Steffens and her teammates were stunned.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Shocked!
