Aquatics GB<\/strong> have released a statement expressing their “extreme concern” following the news that 23 Chinese athletes tested positive for Trimetazidine before going on to compete at the Tokyo Olympics without any sanctions.<\/p>\n Australia’s Daily Telegraph, the New York Times and German broadcaster ARD reported the news of the positive tests for the same banned substance for which Sun Yang was handed a three-month ban in 2014 with Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva handed a four-year suspension.<\/p>\n An investigation by the Chinese Anti-Doping Agency<\/strong> (CHINADA) found in April 2021 that the cause was contamination of a hotel kitchen, which the World Anti-Doping Agency<\/strong> (WADA) found no ground to dispute in its review of the case in June and July.<\/p>\n No bans were handed out, no results were erased and the Chinese athletes were allowed to compete at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, with both organisations and World Aquatics accepting that no anti-doping rules violations occurred.<\/p>\n Neither did WADA or World Aquatics disclose the positive tests.<\/p>\n On Tuesday, Aquatics GB joined USA Swimming<\/strong> and Swimming Australia<\/strong> in responding to the news pointing to the “potential loss of trust and reputational damage to sport”.<\/p>\n The statement read:<\/p>\n
