British Trials, Day 4 Finals: Honey Osrin Leads Home Katie Shanahan In 200 Back With Both Inside The Cut<\/h4>\n

Honey Osrin<\/strong> led home Katie Shanahan<\/strong> in the 200m backstroke with both women dipping inside the nomination time for Paris 2024 at the Aquatics Centre.<\/p>\n

Osrin, coached by Ian Hulme<\/strong> at Loughborough Performance Centre, led throughout to stop the clock at 2:08.37, 0.16secs ahead of Shanahan who clocked 2:08.53 with both women bettering the QT of 2:08.91.<\/p>\n

Shanahan’s University of Stirling teammates Holly McGill<\/strong> and Kathleen Dawson<\/strong> were next home in 2:09.10 and 2:10.25 respectively.<\/p>\n

Pia Murray<\/strong> (2:13.39), Sophie Shaw<\/strong> (2:14.68), Martyna Karabacz<\/strong> (2:15.50) and Rachel Anderson<\/strong> (2:16.94) completed the field.<\/p>\n

Osrin splits: 30.03\/1:01.96 (31.93)\/1:34.71 (32.75)\/2:08.37 (33.66)<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old, who is coached by Ian Hulme<\/strong> at Loughborough University after coming through the Plymouth College programme where she swam with Plymouth Leander under Robin Armayan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Osrin was almost lost for words on poolside when asked what it means to hear that she was on her way to Paris 2024<\/strong>, saying:<\/p>\n

“Just everything. It’s everyone’s dream to go to the Olympics. I’m ecstatic, I am so happy.”<\/p>\n

She added:<\/p>\n

“I feel like the biggest challenge tonight was managing my nerves, keeping in control and not letting my nerves get the best of me.<\/p>\n

“I just thought ‘go out there, have fun’.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It was Shanahan’s second silver of the week after finishing behind Freya Colbert<\/strong> in the 400IM to swim herself well into contention for a place on the plane.<\/p>\n

There’s no respite for the Scot who takes on the 200IM on Saturday where she’ll meet the likes of Abbie Wood<\/strong>, fourth in Tokyo.<\/p>\n

She said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy to get the second nomination time so can\u2019t be disappointed, but the training I\u2019ve put in the last couple of weeks wasn\u2019t represented there.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve got another swim tomorrow which is different as I\u2019m used to swimming one day and rest the next, three days in a row is what it is.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it will sink in next week that I\u2019ve got the time standards and hope I get selected.<\/p>\n

“The programme at Stirling is a senior environment, it\u2019s such a good place to be. Without Steve (Tigg) and Brad (Hay) we wouldn\u2019t be where we are.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
