It successfully defends her title and clubs more than four seconds off the record she set last year. This year, it was considerably faster, her 9:38.98 beating teammate <strong>Hailey Williams<\/strong> by more than 11 seconds. Nova also placed fifth via <strong>Estelle Bauer,<\/strong> who stepped up from seventh last year. UIndy\u2019s <strong>Andrea Gomez Espinosa<\/strong> earned bronze in 9:51.24, edging Simon Fraser\u2019s <strong>Tori Meklensek<\/strong> by a quarter second to the podium.<\/p>\n<p>Behind Bauer, last year\u2019s runner-up <strong>Jordan Fox<\/strong> of Wayne State finished sixth. She had swum outside the fastest heat in the morning. Ben Amijah led by nearly a second at the final 100, but he came back in 25.29 over the final 50 yards while Buessing went 24.50 to defend his title by .07 seconds. Both were within range of the NCAA Record set in 2021 by <strong>Fabio Dalu<\/strong> at 8:54.10.<\/p>\n<p>The bronze medal went to Tampa freshman <strong>Jacob Hamlin. Luca Alessandrini<\/strong> of Nova Southeastern pumped up a spot from last year to finish fourth, while last year\u2019s runner-up <strong>Victor Rosado<\/strong> of Oklahoma Christian dropped to fifth. The Nevada transfer earned gold for Colorado Mesa, going 1:58.63. She was a second clear of <strong>Celina Schmidt<\/strong> of UIndy, who went 1:58.68. She closed hard to nip <strong>Emilia Ronningdal<\/strong> of Nova Southeastern for the silver medal, with Ronningdal going 1:59.70. <strong>Mellie Wijk<\/strong> of Drury had her final-50 charge come up just shy of the podium in 1:59.79.<\/p>\n<p>Ronningdal, a sophomore, was the reigning champ. She had gone 1:57.78 last year. Wijk was eighth and Schmidt rose up from 11th. Nagy was third at the Mountain West Championships with a best time of 1:59.58 last year.<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s silver medalist, <strong>Aurora Duncan<\/strong> of Drury, finished seventh this year, a spot behind teammate <strong>Claire Conover,<\/strong> who was fourth last year. Nova got a boost from <strong>May Lowy<\/strong> finished fifth. Sampson repeated with a time of 1:41.92 that blew out the field, nearly two seconds clear of runner-up <strong>Joao Nogueira<\/strong> of Drury. Sampson was within .31 seconds of the Division II record of 1:41.61 set in 2018 by Olympian <strong>Marius Kusch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Third for the second straight year is Tampa\u2019s <strong>Santiago Corredor<\/strong> in 1:43.97. He just edged Simon Fraser\u2019s <strong>Marcus Mak<\/strong>. Three from Drury scored in the top six. <strong>Alejandro Villarejo<\/strong> was fifth with teammate <strong>David Mourao<\/strong> a spot behind. Out went <strong>Johanna Buys,<\/strong> and in comes <strong>Kirabo Namutebi,<\/strong> with not a beat missed.<\/p>\n<p>The freshman from Uganda went 22.08 to claim the 50 free, clipping .02 off Buy\u2019s NCAA record in the process. He had been the fourth seed in the morning. <strong>Jack Armstrong,<\/strong> the runner-up last year from Henderson State, finished there again, in 19.33. He scored 602.50 points to easily pull away from the field and put a scare into the hallowed record of 618.70 set by Oakland\u2019s <strong>Dario DiFazio<\/strong> way back in 1994.<\/p>\n<p>Osuna Kelly, a junior, was 80 points clear of runner-up <strong>Zachary Schering<\/strong> of Clarion, who beat a crowd to silver. His 521.00 edged Delta State\u2019s <strong>Santiago Santodomingo<\/strong> by less than four points. Schering was sixth in this event last year. <strong>Charles Earl<\/strong> of Drury was fourth in 511.25, switching places from last year with fifth-place <strong>Isaiah Cheeks<\/strong> of Colorado Mesa.
