SANTA CLARA, California, June 22. TWO gigantic backstroke Olympians did battle in the men’s 100-meter backstroke with the Russian Arkady Vyatchanin taking down Matt Grevers at the Arena Grand Prix in Santa Clara. <\/p>\n

Vyatchanin put up a time of 54.34 for the win, just off his ninth-ranked time of 53.81 at the Charlotte stop of the Grand Prix. Grevers, meanwhile, took second in 54.95. Grevers has been faster with a 53.72 at the Austin stop. Stanford’s Eugene Godsoe placed third in 55.41. <\/p>\n
