Barely a half hour later, Frankel added a bronze medal in the 200 freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>It proved to be the start of a championship-defining night, with the Hoosiers building their way to a triple-digit lead over Ohio State by night&#8217;s end. Purdue University               427.5<\/pre>\n<h4>100 butterfly<\/h4>\n<p>Right out of the gates, <strong>Tomer Frankel<\/strong> set a record, in a battle of Israeli stars. Frankel went 44.32 to win and defend his top seed. He held off Michigan\u2019s <strong>Gal Groumi<\/strong>, his good friend from back home, who went 44.60. In the process, Frankel took down Groumi\u2019s meet record from last year, which had been 44.50.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan scored enough points to spring into the lead in the team standings. <strong>Tyler Ray<\/strong> was slower than prelims to earn a bronze medal in 44.91. <strong>Colin Geer<\/strong> finished eighth and <strong>Bence Szabados<\/strong> sprang up to ninth in winning the B final. He was eight tenths clear of runner-up <strong>Toby Barnett<\/strong> of Indiana, an edge he had built by the end of the breaststroke leg.<\/p>\n<p>Barnett, the top seed in prelims, was second in 3:42.49. He held off teammate <strong>Quinn Henninger,<\/strong> who took silver in 436.10.<\/p>\n<p>That was a pitched battle, with <strong>Jordan Rzepka<\/strong> of Purdue getting bronze by the smallest possible margin, .05 points over Ohio State\u2019s <strong>Lyle Yost.<\/strong> The 1-meter champ, Minnesota\u2019s <strong>Yuton Wang,<\/strong> finished fifth with 416.15 points. With three sub-19 swims, the Badgers got clean water early on the way to an NCAA A cut time of 1:15.35 that is just .07 off the meet record. <strong>Taiko Torepe-Ormsby<\/strong> led off with an 18.90, then <strong>Andrew Benson\u2019<\/strong>s 18.49 put them out from for good. <strong>Ben Wiegand<\/strong> solidified it with an 18.87, then <strong>Christopher Morris<\/strong> brought it home eight tenths ahead of runner-up Michigan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bence Szabados<\/strong> was outdueled by Torepe-Ormsby by two tenths. <strong>Tyler Ray<\/strong> delivered an 18.83 on the third leg for the Wolverines.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana was third, a half-second back after the opening leg. Even sub-19 leg by <strong>Mikkel Lee<\/strong> and <strong>Rafael Miroslaw<\/strong> couldn\u2019t recoup the deficit.
