Johnny Crush Leads St. Xavier To 36th-Straight Kentucky Boys State Title<\/b><\/p>\n

St. Xavier High School captured its 36th straight Kentucky High School Athletic Association state championship title this past weekend. The team now has a total of 60 boys\u2019 swimming and diving state crowns, having one every championship since 1989.<\/span><\/p>\n

    St. Xavier won nine of 12 events en route to the team win. Leading the way was senior Johnny Crush, who has committed to Army West Point.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Crush won the 100 free in 42.70, breaking his own state record of 42.99 which was first set in prelims. He broke the record of 43.16 done by Hunter Tapp in 2019 and is now the LSC record holder for the 15-18 age group.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The senior then went on to destroy his state record in the 100 back with a 45.70, lowering his own 46.55 from a year prior.<\/span><\/p>\n

    In total, Crush finishes his prep career having accumulated six individual state titles.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Crush split a 20.95 on the backstroke leg of St. Xavier\u2019s 4×50 medley relay, teaming up with Owen Durham (25.93), Thomas Mercer (21.10) and Alex Thiesing (19.71) for a 1:27.70, breaking their own state record of 1:28.14 from 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Crush also anchored in 42.25 on the 4×100 free relay for his fourth state record of the night, along with Thiesing (44.37), Mercer (44.20) and Sammy McCall (45.69) for a combined time of 2:56.51. The old record stood at 2:57.50 from 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Thiesing, a junior, was a double-event individual winner as well. He won the 200 free to defend his title in 1:35.80. The Michigan pledge also won the 500 free in 4:25.65.<\/span><\/p>\n

    A Virginia commit, Mercer picked up two individual wins, too. He successfully defended his title in the 100 fly in a speedy 47.70, also touching first in the 200 IM after clocking a 1:43.74. His 200 IM broke the state record of 1:45.89.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Also of note, Seneca Oddo was the state champion in the 50 free in a quick 19.93, his first time under 20 seconds from a flat start. The Florida State-bound senior tied Tapp\u2019s state record from 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
