EVANSTON, Ill, August 19. JOCELYN Jay, a former Big Ten Swimmer of the Year and nine-time All-America swimmer at Ohio State, was named the assistant women\u2019s swimming coach at Northwestern today. The announcement came from head coach Jimmy Tierney.<\/p>\n
"I am thrilled to have Jocelyn join the Northwestern Swimming family,\u201d said Tierney. "She will bring a very high level of experience and positive energy to our program — I still remember how she dominated the Big Ten in 1995. I am excited for Jocelyn to help me motivate our athletes to similar success at the Big Ten and NCAA level."<\/p>\n
Jay graduated from Ohio State in 1997 after a stellar career with the Buckeyes. In addition to her numerous All-America honors, she was the Big Ten Swimmer of the Year in 1995 and also earned All-Big Ten in 1993 and 1994. Jay won individual titles at the Big Ten Championships in the 1650 freestyle (1993), 500 freestyle (1995) and 400 individual medley (1995).<\/p>\n
Jay was a member of Canada\u2019s national team from 1991-93 and was a 10-time Canadian National Championship medalist from 1989-92. She was a finalist in Canada\u2019s Olympic Trials in both 1992 and 1996, and currently she is a Canadian and World Record Holder as a Masters swimmer.<\/p>\n
Jay comes to Evanston from her native country, as she has been an assistant coach with the Etobicoke Swimming Club in Toronto. She has been training and preparing swimmers in that club for provincial, national and international competitions since 2000, and was a provincial Coach of the Year in 2002. Prior to that, Jay was the assistant head coach for the Cambridge (Ontario) Aquajets club.<\/p>\n
