{"id":578773,"date":"2024-02-23T08:49:21","date_gmt":"2024-02-23T15:49:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=578773"},"modified":"2024-02-24T07:12:09","modified_gmt":"2024-02-24T14:12:09","slug":"wyoming-releases-names-of-swimmers-killed-in-tragic-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/wyoming-releases-names-of-swimmers-killed-in-tragic-crash\/","title":{"rendered":"Wyoming Identifies Swimmers Killed in Tragic Crash; GoFundMe Set Up to Support Families (Link Included)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Wyoming Identifies Swimmers Killed in Tragic Crash; GoFundMe Set Up to Support Families<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The University of Wyoming has identified the victims &#8211; three members of the swim team &#8211; from the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/three-university-of-wyoming-swimmers-killed-in-car-accident\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> fatal crash<\/a> on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlie Clark<\/strong>, 19, <strong>Carson Muir<\/strong>, 18, and <strong>Luke Slabber<\/strong> died after the single-vehicle crash, which happened on US-287 10 miles south of the Wyoming-Colorado border.<\/p>\n<p>Two other members of the Wyoming men&#8217;s swimming and diving team were injured in the crash. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, according to the university.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/alwaysacowboy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GoFundMe<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My thoughts and prayers are with our swimming and diving student-athletes, coaches, families and friends,&#8221; Wyoming Director of Athletics <strong>Tom Burman<\/strong> said. &#8220;It is difficult to lose members of our University of Wyoming family, and we mourn the loss of these student-athletes. We have counseling services available to our student-athletes and coaches in our time of need.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The crash occurred between Livermore and Virginia Dale, Colo., at the intersection of Highway 287 and Red Mountain Road, according to reports from the Colorado State Patrol. Initial indications are that the driver swerved and the vehicle went off the road, rolling multiple times. The accident is under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are heartsick at the news of this terrible tragedy for our university, our state, our student-athlete community and, most importantly, the families and friends of these young people,&#8221; Wyoming President <strong>Ed<\/strong> <strong>Seidel<\/strong> said. &#8220;Words are insufficient to express our sadness.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>UW students in need of support are encouraged to contact the University Counseling Center at (307) 766-2187. The Counseling Center is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and is prepared to support students.
