Texas Concludes Dual Meet Season With Sweep of SMU<\/strong><\/p>\n

In their final meet before the Big 12 Championships, the Texas Longhorns traveled to Dallas Friday to race Southern Methodist University. The Texas women scored a 153-118 victory over the Mustangs while the men, in the last-ever dual meet for the legendary\u00a0Eddie Reese<\/strong> as head coach, came out on top by a 162-137 margin.<\/p>\n

The women went 1-2 in the 200 medley relay to start things off, with\u00a0Emma Kern<\/strong>,\u00a0Alicia Wilson<\/strong>,\u00a0Emma Sticklen<\/strong> and\u00a0Kelly Pash<\/strong> leading the way in 1:37.37. Pash anchored in 21.80 while Texas B-team anchor\u00a0Ava Longi<\/strong> came home in 21.71. Freshman\u00a0Erin Gemmell<\/strong> opened the individual slate with a dominant performance in the 200 freestyle, her mark of 1:44.43 beating the field by almost four seconds, while Sticklen won the 100 backstroke (52.13) and Channing Hanley<\/strong> topped the 100 breaststroke (1:00.50).<\/p>\n

Longi won the 50 free (22.20) while Pash dominated the 100 free (47.71) before Hanley’s second victory of the day in the 200 breast (2:12.26).\u00a0Erica Sullivan<\/strong> recorded a dominant effort in the 500 free, touching in 4:39.17 to lower the pool record of 4:39.71 set by Auburn’s\u00a0Emily Hetzer<\/strong> in October 2019. Kern won the 100 butterfly (54.00), with Wilson finishing well ahead of the field in the 200 IM (1:57.96).<\/p>\n

In diving, Texas’\u00a0Sarah Carruthers<\/strong> finished first on 3-meter (320.78), and teammate\u00a0Caroline Kupka<\/strong> took care of business on 1-meter (310.35). Pash, Longi, Sticklen and\u00a0Sienna Schellenger<\/strong> closed the day with a 1:27.48 in the 200 free relay, with Longi this time splitting 21.57 for the quickest mark in the field.<\/p>\n

SMU’s\u00a0Carlotta Scarpitti<\/strong> was the winner of the 200 butterfly (2:01.21) while teammate\u00a0Jimena Leguizamon<\/strong> took first in the 200 back (1:56.88).<\/p>\n
