{"id":576880,"date":"2024-02-02T20:48:42","date_gmt":"2024-02-03T03:48:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=576880"},"modified":"2024-02-02T20:48:42","modified_gmt":"2024-02-03T03:48:42","slug":"catherine-meisner-maura-fluehr-lead-penn-state-sweep-of-villanova","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/catherine-meisner-maura-fluehr-lead-penn-state-sweep-of-villanova\/","title":{"rendered":"Catherine Meisner, Maura Fluehr Lead Penn State Sweep of Villanova"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Catherine Meisner, Maura Fluehr Lead Penn State Sweep of Villanova<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Catherine Meisner<\/strong> and <strong>Maura Fluehr<\/strong> won two individual events each as Penn State swept Villanova on Friday in a nonleague meet.<\/p>\n<p>The women prevailed by a 196-100 score, while the men rolled to a 224-74 win.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gopsusports.com\/documents\/2024\/2\/2\/meet_results_psu_vs_nova_2.2.24.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-ten-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Ten Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Meisner went 1:49.81 to win the 200 freestyle, then posted a time of 51.37 seconds to edge teammate <strong>Marly Lough<\/strong> by a half-second in the 100 free. <strong>Julia Meisner<\/strong> added a win in the 400 individual medley in 4:25.03, a great race to edge teammate and 100 backstroke winner <strong>Abby Henderson.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fluehr clocked in at 24.18 to win the 50 free, then went 56.66 to win the 100 butterfly.<\/p>\n<p>Penn State won both relays, with <strong>Ellie Brandbergh, Margaret Markvardt<\/strong> and <strong>Cat Stanford<\/strong> on both squads. Markvardt won the 200 backstroke. <strong>Kylie Rydland<\/strong> won the 200 breaststroke and was second in the 100 breast. <strong>Morgan Jenny<\/strong> won the 1,000 free, <strong>Morgan Rinn<\/strong> took home the 200 fly and <strong>Morgan Moore<\/strong> claimed the 500 free. <strong>Kailey Koval<\/strong> won both diving events, the 3-meter in a 1-2 finish with teammate <strong>Charlize Beniquez.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Villanova\u2019s lone win came from <strong>Maggie Kleinsmith,<\/strong> who went 1:04.72 to take home the 100 breast. She was second to Rydland in the 200 breast. <strong>Lainey Quinones<\/strong> was second in the 200 free and 50 free.<\/p>\n<p>The Penn State men started with two consecutive 1-2-3 finishes. <strong>Victor Baganha\u2019s<\/strong> time of 1:39.27 in the 200 free edged teammate <strong>Eduardo Cisternas<\/strong> by .2 seconds, with <strong>Mariano Lazzerini<\/strong> second. <strong>Cooper Morley<\/strong> followed by going 48.63 to lead a podium sweep in the 100 back.<\/p>\n<p>Baganha won the 100 free in 45.42. He was on both winning relays with Morley, Lazzerini and <strong>Tylor Kim.<\/strong> Morley, who led off the winning 200 medley relay, won the 100 back ahead of teammate <strong>Jack Harvey,<\/strong> then the two flipped positions in the 200 back. Kim won the 50 free.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hayden Elliott<\/strong> and <strong>Kevin Sullivan<\/strong> went 1-2 in both diving events. <strong>Ben Doyle<\/strong> (100 breast), <strong>Caden Davis<\/strong> (200 fly), <strong>Calvin Wise<\/strong> (200 breast), <strong>Zach Brewer<\/strong> (500 free), <strong>Matthew Bittner<\/strong> (100 fly) and <strong>Andrew Christensen<\/strong> (400 IM) each added wins.<\/p>\n<p>Villanova\u2019s lone win came in the 1,000 free via <strong>Charlie Hinckley.
