Sarah Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m\u00a0Named Swedish Female Athlete Of The Year After Historic 2023<\/h4>\n
Sarah Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m\u00a0<\/strong>was named Swedish Female Athlete of the Year<\/strong> for the sixth time after an historic 2023 that saw her rewrite the record books once more.<\/p>\n
The 30-year-old won her fifth straight 50 fly world title<\/a> in Fukuoka in July last year to become\u00a0only the second swimmer along with Katie Ledecky<\/strong> in the 800 free to win five successive golds in the same event.<\/p>\n
Around 12 minutes later she lowered her own 50 free WR<\/a> to 23.61 in the semis, six years to the day since she went 23.67 at the Budapest worlds.<\/p>\n
Come the final and Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m<\/strong>\u00a0claimed her third \u2018splash and dash\u2019 title<\/a> in 23.62, the second-fastest time in history, as she claimed her 21^{st<\/sup> individual world medal.<\/p>\n}
With that she became the most decorated individual medallist in World Championship history with one more than Michael Phelps<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
Following the award ceremony, Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m posted to social media, thanking her family, friends, followers and “beloved cats”.<\/p>\n
She wrote:<\/p>\n
“Yesterday, I received the award Female Athlete of the Year in Sweden for the 6th time. \ud83c\udfc6<\/p>\n
“My words on stage were brief, all I wanted to say was that I\u2019m grateful for the chance to pursue my passion.<\/p>\n
“Thank you to my fans\/followers for their unwavering support, and to my exceptional team for making my journey even more meaningful.<\/p>\n
“To my family, friends, and beloved cats, your constant love is a cornerstone of my success. I cherish you all deeply, even if I don\u2019t express it daily. Meow.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Chad Le Clos<\/strong> was among the many to offer congratulations, saying: “Goat\u2764\ufe0f\ud83d\udd25” meaning Greatest of all time.<\/p>\n
