{"id":576482,"date":"2024-01-24T22:21:48","date_gmt":"2024-01-25T05:21:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=576482"},"modified":"2024-01-24T22:21:48","modified_gmt":"2024-01-25T05:21:48","slug":"usa-swimming-adds-four-teens-to-doha-worlds-roster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-swimming-adds-four-teens-to-doha-worlds-roster\/","title":{"rendered":"USA Swimming Adds Four Teens to Doha Worlds Roster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>USA Swimming Adds Four Teens to Doha Worlds Roster<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USA Swimming on Wednesday announced changes to its roster for the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, which start next week.<\/p>\n<p>Four teens will make their senior international debuts, with <strong>Lilla Bognar, Kayla Han, Kate Hurst <\/strong>and <strong>Addison Sauickie<\/strong> added to the roster.<\/p>\n<p>That quartet will replace veterans <strong>Katie Grimes<\/strong> and <strong>Claire Weinstein<\/strong>, announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-swimming-unveils-18-swimmer-roster-for-doha-worlds-claire-curzan-in-six-events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">originally in November<\/a>. The U.S. delegation now numbers seven women and 12 men, the latter of which remain unchanged. The newcomers will join <strong>Claire Curzan<\/strong> and <strong>Kate Douglass,<\/strong> swimming six events each, plus 50\/100 breaststroker <strong>Piper Enge.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bognar, a Florida commit from Travelers Rest, South Carolina, will swim the 200 backstroke and 400 individual medley.<\/p>\n<p>Han will tackle the 800 free, 1,500 free and 400 IM. She\u2019s a native of La Mirada, Calif., who swims for Carmel Swim Club. Han won the 800 free at the 2023 World Junior Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Sauickie, who trains for her hometown Sarasota Sharks and is a Stanford commit, is entered in the 200 free and 400 free. She won the 200 and took bronze in the 400 at the last World Juniors.<\/p>\n<p>Hurst, a native of Hillsdale, N.J., and a Texas commit, will swim the 1,500 free. (The original roster <a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/2024-world-championships-roster.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s announcement also revealed the coaches for the team. <strong>Erik Posegay,<\/strong> the U.S. national junior team director, will serve as head coach. <strong>Abi Lui<\/strong> of Bellevue Swim Club and Scarlet Aquatics\u2019 <strong>Ken O\u2019Reilly<\/strong> will join Posegay. Lui, who coaches Enge, was part of the team for World Juniors in 2023.
