{"id":576434,"date":"2024-01-23T14:21:35","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T21:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=576434"},"modified":"2024-01-23T14:21:35","modified_gmt":"2024-01-23T21:21:35","slug":"jake-magahey-brooklyn-douthwright-take-home-sec-swimmers-of-the-week-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jake-magahey-brooklyn-douthwright-take-home-sec-swimmers-of-the-week-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"Jake Magahey, Brooklyn Douthwright Take Home SEC Swimmers of the Week Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Jake Magahey, Brooklyn Douthwright Take Home SEC Swimmers of the Week Honors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Georgia\u2019s <strong>Jake Magahey<\/strong> and <strong>Brooklyn Douthwright<\/strong> of Tennessee were named SEC Swimmers of the Week by the conference Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee\u2019s <strong>Bryden Hattie<\/strong> and <strong>Whit Andrus<\/strong> of Auburn split the men\u2019s diver of the week honor, while Arkansas\u2019s <strong>Anna Arnatova<\/strong> was the top female diver. <strong>Silas Beth<\/strong> of LSU and <strong>Camille Spink<\/strong> of Tennessee were the top freshmen.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/sec-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SEC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Magahey won three events <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/abby-mcculloh-sets-pool-record-but-georgia-falls-to-tennessee-in-split\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as Georgia bested Tennessee.<\/a> He started with a victory in the 1,000 freestyle and did the distance double by also claiming the 500. In between came a narrow victory in the 200 butterfly. The senior also swam a leg on the winning 400 free relay with a season-best split of 42.87 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Douthwright shined as the Vols women\u2019s team returned from Athens with a victory. The Canadian international won the 200 free and 100 fly and anchored the Vols\u2019 winning 400 free relay. She also finished third in the 100 free.<\/p>\n<p>Beth made an instant impact for the Tigers in his college debut. The German international set a school record in the 1,000 free (8:56.50), knocking down a 12-year-old standard. He finished second in the 500 free and anchored the Tigers\u2019 second-place 400 free relay <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/baylor-nelson-sets-two-pool-records-as-texas-am-sweeps-lsu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a loss to Texas A&amp;M<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Spink won twice in the Vols\u2019 win over Georgia. She was first in the 50 free and 100 free. She also swam fly in UT\u2019s winning 200 medley relay and helped the Vols to finish the meet with a win in the 400 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>Andrus swept both diving events as Auburn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/auburn-achieves-sweep-against-in-state-rival-alabama\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beat in-state rival Alabama<\/a>. He scored 379.88 points on 1-meter, a personal-best. The junior tallied 391.58 on 3-meter.<\/p>\n<p>Hattie dominated in Athens. The senior from Canada scored 365.25 on 1-meter and 400.28 on 3-meter, both victories.<\/p>\n<p>Arnautova swept the springboard events at the Arkansas Diving Classic.
