{"id":576167,"date":"2024-01-17T20:12:32","date_gmt":"2024-01-18T03:12:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=576167"},"modified":"2024-01-17T20:12:32","modified_gmt":"2024-01-18T03:12:32","slug":"uscs-michal-chmielewski-brooke-schaffer-of-ucla-earn-pac-12-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/uscs-michal-chmielewski-brooke-schaffer-of-ucla-earn-pac-12-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"USC\u2019s Michal Chmielewski, Brooke Schaffer of UCLA Earn Pac-12 Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>USC\u2019s Michal Chmielewski, Brooke Schaffer of UCLA Earn Pac-12 Honors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USC\u2019s <strong>Michal Chmielewski<\/strong> and UCLA\u2019s <strong>Brooke Schaffer<\/strong> were named the male and female Pac-12 Swimmer of the Week <a href=\"https:\/\/pac-12.com\/article\/2024\/01\/16\/mens-pac-12-swimmer-and-diver-week-jan-16-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Wednesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Their teammates \u2013 <strong>Laurent Gosselin-Paradis<\/strong> and <strong>Lauren Hallaselka<\/strong> \u2013 won <a href=\"https:\/\/pac-12.com\/article\/2024\/01\/16\/womens-pac-12-swimmer-and-diver-week-jan-16-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the top diving honors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Schaffer helped UCLA beat Utah <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ucla-swimming-earns-pac-12-win-over-utah\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a dual meet<\/a>. She won the 100 freestyle in 50.36 seconds and the 200 free in 1:50.11. The graduate student also anchored the Bruins\u2019 winning 400 medley relay in 49.90 seconds.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/pac-12-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pac-12 Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Chmielewski, a freshman from Poland, helped USC handle UC San Diego <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usc-swims-past-uc-san-diego-utah-behind-michal-chimielewski-kaitlyn-dobler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a dual meet<\/a>. He won the 100 butterfly in 48.41 seconds, the 100 backstroke in 48.52 and the 1,000 freestyle in 9:28.73. He showed his range by splitting 21.48 off the end of the Trojans\u2019 winning 200 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>Hallaselka tallied a season-best six-dive score of 365.10 points on 3-meter. The freshman from Finland ended up with a finals score of 675.30 to win the UCLA Invitational. She finished fifth on 1-meter with a score of 562.65 and helped the Bruins win the event.<\/p>\n<p>Gosselin-Paradis won the 3-meter event at the UCLA Invitational with a score of 734.65 points. He also helped the Trojans win the team diving event.
