Swimming Canada\u2019s Wayne Lomas to Step Down After Paralympics Trials<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wayne Lomas,<\/strong> the associate high performance director of Swimming Canada\u2019s Paralympic program, will step down after the country\u2019s trials meet.<\/p>\n

Swimming Canada made the announcement on Friday. Lomas, who joined the organization in 2018<\/a>, will stay on through May 31, seeing the country through its Olympic and Paralympic Trials.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince being welcomed into this role and into the Canadian Paralympic swimming community in 2018, I have enjoyed the most amazing opportunities,\u201d Lomas said in a press release<\/a>. \u201cIt has been an immense privilege, and one that I will never forget. I have made many friends and learned much more about high performance in my time here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lomas led Swimming Canada through the COVID-19 pandemic and the delayed Tokyo Paralympics. Canada won eight medals in Tokyo, including two gold and five total medals for Aurelie Rivard<\/strong> and gold from Danielle Dorris.<\/strong> Canada won 19 medals, including nine gold, at the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships in Manchester, England. It\u2019s the highest medal haul since 2006 for the country.<\/p>\n

The Australian spent seven and a half years with Swimming Australia until 2018, including the last four months as the high performance manager.<\/p>\n

\u201cWayne has made a significant contribution to the whole Paralympic program since he commenced with Swimming Canada in 2018,\u201d Swimming Canada high performance director John Atkinson<\/strong> said. \u201cHe guided the program through the challenge of a global pandemic, through the Tokyo Games and built the performances to deliver strong results at the world championships last year. I personally wish Wayne all the best and thank him for what he has done with Swimming Canada. We are looking forward to the Paris Games and are confident in our team, program staff and coaches to continue the great work within the system that is in place.\u201d<\/p>\n
