He was also in the 200 free, the 100 butterfly (as the top seed in the event in which he holds the world record) and the 50 free. He was also the top seed in the latter.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old has swum sparingly since winning five gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics. He had a solid performance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/caeleb-dressel-simone-manuel-show-progress-toward-paris-goal-at-u-s-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the U.S. Open in December<\/a>, winning the 100 fly in 51.31 seconds. He didn&#8217;t make the A final in either sprint free event but delivered very fast consolation final swims. He only returned to training full time in the fall at the University of Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Dressel withdrew from the 2022 World Championships for health reasons after two golds, including in the 50 fly. He fell shy of qualifying at U.S. trials for the 2023 World Championships.
