Sarah Sjostrom placed first with a new world record.\" width=\"324\" height=\"231\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-534351\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sarah Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m: Photo Courtesy: Deepbluemedia \/ Insidefoto<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m won gold in the 100 fly at <strong>Rio 2016<\/strong> plus 200 free silver and 100 free bronze and will compete at Paris 2024 16 years after making her Olympic debut aged 15 at <strong>Beijing 2008<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Sjostrom has been competing at the very top table for more than half her life having become European 100 fly champion aged 14 in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in March 2008.<\/p>\n<p>This year she joined <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> as the only woman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-seven-finals-sarah-sjostrom-speeds-to-fifth-straight-title-in-50-butterfly-also-ties-michael-phelps-record\/\">to have claimed five straight world titles<\/a> in a single event when she won the 50 fly once more in Fukuoka, 12 months after the American achieved that feat in the 800 at the Budapest worlds.<\/p>\n<p>Victory in the 50 free &#8211; following a WR in the semis &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-eight-finals-sarah-sjostrom-swims-second-fastest-time-ever-in-50-free-most-individual-medals-at-worlds\/\">meant she moved beyond <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong><\/a> as the swimmer to have claimed the most individual medals in World Championship history.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-sjostrom-planning-for-sixth-olympic-games-at-la-2028-i-think-i-am-going-to-continue-for-much-longer\/\">In an interview with Swimming World <\/a>in September 2022, Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m spoke of her plans to compete at her sixth Olympics at <strong>LA 2028<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Only fellow Swedes <strong>Therese Alshammar<\/strong> and<strong> Lars Frolander<\/strong> plus <strong>Oussama Mellouli<\/strong> and <strong>Derya B\u00fcy\u00fckuncu<\/strong> have swum at six Games.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDefinitely. (It\u2019s) very unlikely I am not doing it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParis will be the first one and I try to always take one year at a time \u2013 that is the main thing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll see \u2013 maybe I\u2019ll find out in two years (and) I\u2019m like \u2018ah, no, I\u2019m done\u2019 but I don\u2019t think so.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I am going to continue for much
