{"id":573254,"date":"2023-11-22T19:59:12","date_gmt":"2023-11-23T02:59:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=573254"},"modified":"2023-11-22T19:59:12","modified_gmt":"2023-11-23T02:59:12","slug":"indiana-takes-home-three-of-six-big-ten-weekly-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/indiana-takes-home-three-of-six-big-ten-weekly-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Indiana Takes Home Three of Six Big Ten Weekly Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Indiana Takes Home Three of Six Big Ten Weekly Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Indiana University athletes took home three of the six Big Ten Weekly Awards, announced by the conference on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jassen Yep<\/strong> earned <a href=\"https:\/\/bigten.org\/news\/2023\/11\/22\/mens-swimming-and-diving-indiana-ohio-state-claim-weekly-mens-swimming-diving-awards.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">men\u2019s swimmer of the week<\/a>, while <strong>Mikkel Lee<\/strong> was the top men\u2019s freshman. <strong>Skyler Liu<\/strong> rounded out the trio by being recognized as women\u2019s diver of the week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phoebe Bacon<\/strong> of Wisconsin earned the top <a href=\"https:\/\/bigten.org\/news\/2023\/11\/22\/general-indiana-ohio-state-and-wisconsin-sweep-womens-swimming-diving-weekly-awards.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">women\u2019s swimming honor<\/a>. Ohio State produced the women\u2019s freshman of the week in <strong>Krista Marlin<\/strong> and the top men\u2019s diver in <strong>Lyle Yost.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-ten-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Ten Swimming<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yep set the fastest time in the nation in the men\u2019s 200 breaststroke <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ohio-state-invite-chris-guiliano-jassen-yep-throw-down-a-cuts-to-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the Ohio State Invitational<\/a>, winning in 1:50.71. It\u2019s an NCAA A cut, a pool record and the meet record. He set the meet mark in the 100 breast, his time a 51.49 that was fourth in the nation. It was a B cut, as was his time of 1:44.93 in the 200 individual medley.<\/p>\n<p>Yost won all three diving events at his home invitational, a fitting finale for the graduate student. He scored 428.10 to capture 3-meter, 388.25 on 1-meter and 378.05 on platform.<\/p>\n<p>Lee, a freshman from Singapore, went 42.67 in the 100 free. He anchored the Hoosiers\u2019 winning 400 free relay in 41.66, setting a meet and pool record. He also went 19.75 off the front of the 200 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>Bacon assembled an outstanding performance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/texas-invitational-phoebe-bacon-emma-sticklen-krzysztof-chmielewski-hit-no-1-times-as-meet-concludes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the Georgia Invitational<\/a>. The senior won the 200 backstroke in 1:50.36 to set the top time in the nation this season and attain an NCAA A cut. She finished second in the 100 back in 51.32 and third in the 200 individual medley in 1:55.13. Bacon helped the Badgers achieve NCAA A cuts in the 800 free, 400 medley and 400 free relays.<\/p>\n<p>Liu won the 1-meter and platform events in Columbus, scoring 297.25 and 351.00 points, respectively. The junior from China was second in 3-meter at 330.65.<\/p>\n<p>Marlin won the 200 back at her home invitational in 1:52.49, the third-fastest time in the country and an NCAA B cut.
