That lowers her American record of 20.83 set last February. She also ties the NCAA\/U.S. Open record set in this very same pool by <strong>Maggie MacNeil<\/strong> last March.<\/p>\n<p>Walsh led a quick first day in Knoxville, after which Virginia\u2019s women lead with 350 points to Tennessee\u2019s 288. The Volunteer men have a 346-269 edge on UVA.<\/p>\n<p>Event-by-event results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/tennessee-invitational-day-1-day-1\/ncaa-college\/2023\/November\/15?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/midseason-college-invitationals-womens-preview-can-gretchen-walsh-break-records-in-november\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Midseason College Invitationals \u2014 Women\u2019s Preview: Can Gretchen Walsh Break Records in November?<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/midseason-college-invitationals-mens-preview-leon-marchand-and-arizona-state-setting-up-for-championship-run\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Midseason College Invitationals \u2014 Men\u2019s Preview: Leon Marchand and Arizona State Setting Up For Championship Run<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 200 free relay<\/h4>\n<p>Virginia set a meet record in 1:25.24, an NCAA A cut. <strong>Jasmine Nocentini, Alex Walsh, Aimee Canny <\/strong>and <strong>Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> went 1:25.24 to beat Tennessee by nearly two seconds. The Vols (1:27.22 with <strong>Mona McSharry, Amber Myers, Jasmine Rumley <\/strong>and <strong>Camille Spink)<\/strong> tallied an NCAA A cut, as did third-place Alabama. The Tide went 1:28.02 with <strong>Cadence Vincent, Kailyn Winter, Jada Scott<\/strong> and <strong>Diana Petkova.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 200 free relay<\/h4>\n<p>Tennessee set the <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/news\/2023\/11\/15\/swimming-diving-ncaa-leading-efforts-sec-best-times-highlight-day-one-of-tennessee-invite.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">top time in the nation<\/a> with <strong>Jordan Crooks<\/strong> off the front in 18.46. With <strong>Gui Caribe, Nikoli Blackman <\/strong>and <strong>Micah Chambers,<\/strong> the Vols went 1:16.03, an NCAA A cut.<\/p>\n<p>Alabama was second with Virginia third.<\/p>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 500 freestyle<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Aimee Canny<\/strong> turned it around quickly to deliver an NCAA A cut in the 500 free in a time of 4:36.26. It&#8217;s faster than the time used to win the NCAA title last season (Kensey McMahon of Alabama in 4:36.62.)<\/p>\n<p>Second was teammate <strong>Cavan Gormsen<\/strong> in 4:38.80. <strong>Mackenzie Brandt<\/strong> of Alabama took third in 4:42.55.<\/p>\n<p>UT\u2019s <strong>Brooklyn Douthwright<\/strong> was a surprising eighth in 4:49.44, though she was swimming the 500 and 200 IM back to back.<\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 500 freestyle<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Charlie Hawke<\/strong> of Alabama took down the meet record that had held since 2019 by going 4:12.91. It\u2019s an NCAA B cut, 1.17 seconds off the auto standard. It improves his college-best time of 4:16.08, set in 2022, and thrashes the school record set in 2022 by <strong>Victor Johansson<\/strong> of 4:14.34.<\/p>\n<p>Hawke took down the record set by Georgia\u2019s <strong>Walker Higgins<\/strong> at 4:13.05 in 2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joey Tepper<\/strong> of Tennessee was second in 4:15.70. Teammate <strong>Jake Narvid<\/strong> was third.<\/p>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 200 IM<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Alex Walsh<\/strong> dropped an A cut of 1:52.59 to get the victory. Teammate <strong>Ella Nelson<\/strong> was second in 1:53.95, a high B cut. Tennessee\u2019s <strong>Josephine Fuller<\/strong> followed in 1:55.37. Four swimmers were in the 1:57s, including Douthwright and <strong>Sara Stolter<\/strong> from the B final.<\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 200 IM<\/h4>\n<p>Virginia\u2019s <strong>Sebastien Sergile<\/strong> set the meet record with a winning time of 1:43.42, outdueling teammate <strong>Noah Nichols<\/strong> in the final. Nichols was second in 1:43.73, and third-place <strong>Kaique Alves<\/strong> of Alabama and Tennessee\u2019s <strong>Landon Driggers<\/strong> in fourth also broke 1:44 (as did <strong>Tim Connery<\/strong> to win the B final).<\/p>\n<p>Sergile took the record that Tennessee\u2019s <strong>Sam McHugh<\/strong> set in 2017 at 1:43.66. It\u2019s a B cut for Sergile.<\/p>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 50 freestyle<\/h4>\n<p>Behind Gretchen Walsh in the 50 free was Tennessee\u2019s <strong>Mona McSharry<\/strong> in 22.01. <strong>Cadence Vincent<\/strong> of Alabama was second in 22.10. Both are high B cuts. Arkansas\u2019s <strong>Bella Cothern<\/strong> was fourth in 22.22.<\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 50 free<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Jordan Crooks<\/strong> was even faster in his second swim of the night, going 18.40 to set the meet record and book an NCAA A cut. Teammate <strong>Gui Caribe<\/strong> was second, tied with <strong>Matt Brownstead<\/strong> in 19.27. <strong>Tim Korstanje<\/strong> of Alabama was fourth in 19.63.<\/p>\n<p>B final winner <strong>Micah Chambers<\/strong> bested him, though, in 19.51.<\/p>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 400 medley relay<\/h4>\n<p>Virginia made it two-for-two in the meet record department, going 3:26.15. That\u2019s faster than their in-season time at this meet in 2021, which featured <strong>Alex Walsh<\/strong> and <strong>Kate Douglass.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This foursome comprised <strong>Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> (leading off in 30.05), <strong>Jasmine Nocentini,<\/strong> Alex Walsh and <strong>Aimee Canny.<\/strong> Their time is an A cut.<\/p>\n<p>So is the mark of Tennessee at 3:31.22, with <strong>Josephine Fuller, Mona McSharry, Katie Mack<\/strong> and <strong>Brooklyn Douthwright.<\/strong> Virginia\u2019s B squad was third \u2013 notably, <strong>Maxine Parker<\/strong> was .12 faster off the end than Canny on the A relay. Alabama\u2019s A squad was fourth.<\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 400 medley relay<\/h4>\n<p>Tennessee landed .56 seconds shy of the A cut in the 400 medley, going 3:05.52 to narrowly edge Virginia by .08 seconds. <strong>Harrison Lierz, Flynn Crisci, Jordan Crooks<\/strong> and <strong>Gui Caribe<\/strong> led the Vols to victory. Crooks split 45.07 seconds on fly, Caribe 41.87 off the end.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia was second in 3:05.60 (<strong>Will Cole, Noah Nichols, Tim Connery, Matt Brownstead<\/strong>).
