{"id":572733,"date":"2023-11-15T18:22:51","date_gmt":"2023-11-16T01:22:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=572733"},"modified":"2023-11-15T19:50:40","modified_gmt":"2023-11-16T02:50:40","slug":"art-adamson-invitational-day-1-texas-am-sweeps-two-events-to-kick-off-meet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/art-adamson-invitational-day-1-texas-am-sweeps-two-events-to-kick-off-meet\/","title":{"rendered":"Art Adamson Invitational Day 1: Texas A&#038;M Sweeps Two Events to Kick Off Meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s annual Art Adamson Invitational kicked off on Wednesday from College Station.<\/p>\n<p>A large contingent of competition from around the country game together to start the meet.<\/p>\n<p>The events on Day 1 were the women&#8217;s and men&#8217;s 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 free and 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>The Aggies lead the men&#8217;s team scores with 492, followed by LSU (298), Utah (202) and Air Force (107).<\/p>\n<p>For the women, the Aggies also lead with 315, followed by UCLA (260), LSU (222), Washington State (109), San Diego State (109), Utah (106) and Houston (82).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More College News<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 200 Free Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LSU earned the first win of the meet, winning the 200 free relay behind<strong> Reagan Osborne, Katarina Milutinovich, Michaela De Villiers<\/strong> and <strong>Megan Barnes<\/strong>. The quartet finished in 1:28.88.<\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s <strong>Olivia Theall, Chloe Stepanek, Kaitlyn Owens<\/strong> and <strong>Bobbi Kennett<\/strong> took second in 1:29.29.<\/p>\n<p>UCLA&#8217;s <strong>Brooks Schaffer, Ana Jih-Schiff, Sarah Bennetts<\/strong> and <strong>Maddy Wright<\/strong> took third in 1:29.81.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 200 Free Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Texas A&amp;M men started fast, winning the first men&#8217;s event of the meet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baylor Nelson, Connor Foote, Carter Nelson<\/strong> and<strong> Clayton Conklin<\/strong> got to the wall in 1:18.23 to win the 200 free relay. The team dropped 1:45 from its seed time.<\/p>\n<p>LSU&#8217;s <strong>Pawel Uryniuk, Jere Hribar, Andrew Garon<\/strong> and <strong>Simon Casey<\/strong> took second in 1:18.81.<\/p>\n<p>Utah&#8217;s <strong>Jaek Horner, Will Woodall, Davis Stachelek<\/strong> and <strong>Jackson Kehler<\/strong> took third in 1:19.37.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 500 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M went 1-2-3 in the 500 freestyle to build a lead in the meet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abby Grottle<\/strong> won the event in 4:41.58, followed by<strong> Chloe Stepanek<\/strong> in 4:42.60 and <strong>Hayden<\/strong> <strong>Miller<\/strong> in 4:43.22.<\/p>\n<p>UCLA&#8217;s<strong> Ashley Kolessar<\/strong> took fourth in 4:46.58.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 500 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LSU&#8217;s<strong> Jacob Pishko<\/strong> was faster than the field by four seconds to win the 500 free. The sophomore got to the wall in 4:19.65.<\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s <strong>Trey Dickey<\/strong> took second in 4:23.21, ahead of Utah&#8217;s <strong>Jakub Walter<\/strong> (4:24.30).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UCLA showed some real dominance in the 200 IM, sweeping the top three spots in an impressive performance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paige MacEachern<\/strong> won the race in 1:57.20 to finish ahead of teammates <strong>Rosie Murphy<\/strong> (1:57.93) and <strong>Ana Jih-Schiff (<\/strong>1:58.89).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M made it another sweep, this time 1-2-3-4-5 in a dominating performance by the Aggies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baylor Nelson<\/strong> won the event in 1:41.33, followed by <strong>Logan Brown<\/strong> (1:43.07), <strong>Alex Sanchez<\/strong> (1:44.42), <strong>Vincent Ribeiro<\/strong> (1:44.85) and <strong>Munzy Kabbara<\/strong> (1:45.04).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 50 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>San Diego State junior<strong> Meredith Smithbake<\/strong>r edged the field to claim the 50 freestyle win, closing out the women&#8217;s individual events on Day 1<\/p>\n<p>Smithbaker got to the wall in 22.24, a near four-second drop from her seed time.<\/p>\n<p>Utah sophomore<strong> Erin Palmer<\/strong> was just behind, finishing second in 22.41.<\/p>\n<p>LSU&#8217;s<strong> Michaela De Villiers<\/strong> took third (22.46), just ahead of teammate <strong>Katarina Milutinovich<\/strong> (22.48) and Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s <strong>Chloe Stepanek<\/strong> (22.51).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 50 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LSU freshman <strong>Jere Hribar<\/strong> dropped three seconds from his seed time to win the men&#8217;s 50 free in 19.45.<\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M took the next three spots with<strong> Connor Foote<\/strong> (19.57), <strong>Clayton Conklin<\/strong> (20.00) and <strong>Carter Nelson<\/strong> (20.40).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 400 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s <strong>Miranda Grana, Bobbi Kennett, Olivia Theall<\/strong> and <strong>Chloe Stepanek<\/strong> won the 400 medley relay in 3:31.02 to close the women&#8217;s portion of the first night.<\/p>\n<p>UCLA&#8217;s <strong>Fay Lustria, Sarah Bennetts, Aislinn Walsh<\/strong> and <strong>Brooke Schaffer<\/strong> took second in 3:35.44.<\/p>\n<p>Washington State&#8217;s <strong>Anna Rauchholz, Emily Lundgren, Dori Hathazi<\/strong> and <strong>Madison Parker<\/strong> took third in 3:36.03.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 400 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M took the top two spots in the final relay of the night with the A and B teams going 1-2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thomas Shomper, Alex Sanchez, Connor Foote<\/strong> and <strong>Baylor Nelson<\/strong> won the event in 3:04.62.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tyler Hulst, Logan Brown, Clayton Conklin<\/strong> and <strong>Carter Nelson<\/strong> were second (3:08.39).<\/p>\n<p>LSU&#8217;s <strong>Griffin Curtis, Mitch Mason, Pawel Uryniuk<\/strong> and <strong>Jere Hribar<\/strong> took third (3:09.80).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s annual Art Adamson Invitational kicked off on Wednesday from College Station.
