world crown and proceeding to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-four-finals-dolphins-teen-machine-mollie-ocallaghan-sinks-long-standing-200-freestyle-world-record-in-a-classic-aussie-1-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">break her first world record in winning the 200m freestyle<\/a> at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adding three relay gold medals in the 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x100m Mixed freestyle relays to walk away with five gold medals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O\u2019Callaghan joins <strong>Susie O\u2019Neill, <\/strong>who won back-to-back Swimmer of the Year Awards in 1995 and 1996 and <strong>Bronte Campbell,<\/strong> who shared with sister <strong>Cate Campbell,<\/strong> in 2012 and <strong>Emily Seebohm<\/strong> in 2015 as the third female to take out successive majors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was also a big night for two-time Olympic golden girl O\u2019Neill who along with the legendary <strong>Murray Rose<\/strong> and <strong>Lorraine Crapp<\/strong>, was inducted into the Swimming Australia Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The trio joining last year\u2019s inaugural inductees \u2013 <strong>Freddie Lane, Fanny Durack, Dawn Fraser, Shane Gould<\/strong> and<strong> Ian Thorpe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a red-hot field of nominations for the Olympic Program Swimmmer, O\u2019Callaghan beat recently crowned World Aquatics Swimmer of The Year <strong style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kaylee McKeown<\/strong> (Griffith University), her St Peters Western team mate and 2019 winner <strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Ariarne Titmus<\/strong> and men&#8217;s 400m freestyle world<\/span><\/strong> champion <strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Sam Short<\/strong> (Rackleys, QLD) <\/span><\/strong>\u2013 without doubt the toughest of any award to be judged this year after Australia\u2019s women dominated 2023.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O\u2019Callaghan upset Olympic champion Titmus to take the 200m title in Fukuoka and in doing so lowered the long-standing previous world mark, set by Italy\u2019s <strong>Federica Pellegrini<\/strong>\u00a0in 2009.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O\u2019Callaghan also helped Australia to three relay gold medals, two of these in world record time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Paralympic champion Crothers, the five-time world champion defended his 50m and 100m world championship titles in Manchester to maintain his claim as fastest freestyle sprinter with a disability in the world &#8211; winning back-to-back Paralympic Program Swimmer Awards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While <strong>Gubecka\u2019s<\/strong> silver medal effort in the 10km at the World Championships in Fukuoka and her bronze medal in the 4x1500m mixed relay earned her the Open Water gong.<\/p>\n<p>The never-say-die Rio Olympian was also recently announced as the first athlete selected for the Paris 2024 Australian Olympic Team.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2023 Swimming Australia Awards also marked a significant celebration of the sport\u2019s history, with the second unveiling of Swimming Australia&#8217;s Hall of Fame, established to recognise and celebrate those who have left an indelible mark on the sport at the international level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gubecka and Crothers coach, <strong>Kate Sparkes <\/strong>(Yeronga Park, QLD) won both\u00a0Paralympic Coach of the Year\u00a0and\u00a0Open Water Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Richard Sleight<\/strong>\u00a0was awarded the\u00a0<strong>National Age Coach of the Year<\/strong>\u00a0after the success of the St Peters Western club at the 2023 Australian Age Championships, with\u00a0<strong>Michaela Pattinson<\/strong>\u00a0(Carlile, NSW) named\u00a0<strong>Youth Coach of the Year<\/strong>\u00a0for her work with the Junior Dolphins.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Alexa Leary<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(All Saints, QLD) was named<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>AIS\u00a0Discovery of the Yea<strong>r<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>following her breakthrough rookie campaign at the Manchester Para World Swimming Championships.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Olivia Wunsch<\/strong>\u00a0(Carlile, NSW) was named the\u00a0Flippers Athlete of the Year\u00a0after a season that saw her star on the world stage with the Junior Dolphins at the recent Junior World Championships, while young swimmer\u00a0<strong>Eli Jack Bruggemann<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>was named the\u00a0Pho3nix Junior Excellence Swimmer of the Year<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other winners on the night included\u00a0<strong>David Cooper\u00a0<\/strong>as the Roger Smith Technical Official of the Year, with the <strong>Guilford<\/strong> <strong>Kalamunda Swimmimng Club<\/strong> <strong>(WA) <\/strong>winning Club of the Year, while <strong>Tony Ball<\/strong> (Kwinana
