The roster includes several veteran mainstays but is without the brightest talents on both sides of the draw.<\/p>\n<p>Montreal native <strong>Katerine Savard<\/strong> is making her 13th World Championships appearance, across long- and short-course, dating to 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m super happy to represent Canada for another world championships,\u201d Savard said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimming.ca\/en\/news\/2023\/11\/07\/26-athletes-named-to-world-aquatics-championships-team-bound-for-doha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a Swimming Canada press release<\/a>. \u201cEvery competition is a new opportunity to test what I\u2019m working on going towards Olympic trials. It will be my seventh [long course] world champs. I\u2019ve been close to getting back into the Top 8 from last summer, and I\u2019m hoping I can prove to myself that I can still be one of the best butterfly swimmers in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019ll be joined by program veterans <strong>Sydney Pickrem, Taylor Ruck<\/strong> and <strong>Ingrid Wilm.<\/strong> Pickrem is fresh off two gold medals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pan-american-games-day-5-finals-rachel-stege-breaks-meet-record-in-1500\/#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the 2023 Pan Am Games<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s team includes <strong>Finlay Knox<\/strong> and <strong>Ruslan Gaziev<\/strong> among other emerging talents. Eight swimmers, including Tokyo Olympian <strong>Tessa Cieplucha,<\/strong> will be swimming at their first long-course Worlds.<\/p>\n<p>Absent are most of the big names: No <strong>Summer McIntosh,<\/strong> no <strong>Maggie MacNeil,<\/strong> no <strong>Kylie Masse,<\/strong> no <strong>Josh Liendo,<\/strong> no <strong>Ilya Kharun<\/strong> and no <strong>Penny Oleksiak.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The missing names narrow Canada\u2019s path to qualify relays for the Paris Olympics, with spots going to the top 13 finishers in Doha as an inducement to participate in a third Worlds in 18 months. Canada\u2019s women\u2019s 400 medley is already in thanks to a bronze at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka.<\/p>\n<p>Canada won two gold and six total medals at the Fukuoka Worlds.
