﻿{"id":572000,"date":"2023-11-03T20:09:09","date_gmt":"2023-11-04T03:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=572000"},"modified":"2023-11-03T20:09:09","modified_gmt":"2023-11-04T03:09:09","slug":"usc-women-swim-past-arizona-wildcat-men-prevail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usc-women-swim-past-arizona-wildcat-men-prevail\/","title":{"rendered":"USC Women Swim Past Arizona; Wildcat Men Prevail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The No. 6 USC women&#8217;s swimming and diving team prevailed during their conference opener, defeating Arizona 159-139 in Tucson on Friday to win the dual.<\/p>\n<p>The Arizona men defeated USC 155-145.<\/p>\n<p>The USC women snagged wins in both relays, claiming the 400y medley and 200y free relay. <strong>Caroline Famous, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado<\/strong> and <strong>Vasilissa Buinaia<\/strong> opened the meet with a victory in the 4x100y medley relay, clocking a 3:31.58. The afternoon wrapped with Buinaia, Delgado, Kuechler and Abraham claiming the 4x50y free in 1:28.94.<\/p>\n<p>USC newcomers <strong>Minna Abraham<\/strong> (1:44.45) and<strong> Claire Tuggle<\/strong> (1:48.24) finished 1-2, respectively in the 200y freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Junior<strong> Chris O&#8217;Grady<\/strong> recorded an event win in the 200y IM, posting a 1:46.81 to take the event. On the women&#8217;s side, sophomore transfer Tuggle captured the race in 1:59.87.<\/p>\n<p>USC claimed both distance freestyle events, with<strong> Justina Kozan<\/strong> claiming the event for the women in 4:44.52, while <strong>Krzysztof Chmielewski<\/strong> blasted a 4:21.02 to win it for the men. Chmielewski returned to claim the 1000y free in 8:53.90, while <strong>Marlene Kahler<\/strong> touched first in 9:59.63.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200y fly, the Chmielewski brothers finished 1-2, with Krzysztof (1:43.26) and Michal (1.43.68) touching first and second, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kaitlyn Dobler<\/strong> continued her winning ways, claiming both the 100y breast (58.54) and 200y breast (2:11.05) for the Women of Troy.<\/p>\n<p>Trojan senior <strong>Ben Dillard<\/strong> won the 200y breast for Troy in 1:56.57. He was also second in the 100y breast, clocking an NCAA B-cut time of 53.40. O&#8217;Grady was third in 53.47.<\/p>\n<p>The Trojans swept the sprint freestyle events, with Buinaia (22.51), <strong>Caroline Famous<\/strong> (22.57) and Delgado (22.66) going 1-2-3 Trojan finish in the 50y free. In the 100 free, Buinaia recorded her second win (48.01), finishing ahead of Abraham (49.16) and Kuechler (49.73) who touched second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>USC also claimed all four backstroke events, with Famous (52.18) and <strong>Vaggelis Makyrgiannis<\/strong> (47.25) both winning the 100 backstroke. Makyrgiannis also claimed the 200y back in 1:44.16, while Kozan clocked a season best 1:56.57 to win the 200 for the Women of Troy.<\/p>\n<p>USC&#8217;s top performances in the diving well came from <strong>Shangfei Wang<\/strong> (351.90) and <strong>Laurent Gosselin-Paradis<\/strong> (381.83) who captured the men&#8217;s 1-meter and 3-meter events, respectively. Paradis was also third on 1-meter (336.60) while Wang was fifth on 3-meter (316.20).<\/p>\n<p>The Arizona men started with a win in the 400 medley relay with<strong> Ogi Maric, Ryan Foote, Haakon Naughton<\/strong> and <strong>Ralph Daleiden Ciuferri<\/strong> getting to the wall in 3:07.20.<\/p>\n<p>Daleiden Ciuferri won the 200 free in 1:34.56 and the 100 free (42.47). <strong>Tommy Palmer<\/strong> won the 50 free (19.67). <strong>Daniel Young<\/strong> won the 100 breast (53.12). Naughton won the 100 fly (46.82).<\/p>\n<p>Daleiden Ciuferri, Palmer,<strong> Seth Miller<\/strong> and Maric won the 200 free relay (1:18.34).<\/p>\n<p>Arizona&#8217;s <strong>Julia Heimstead<\/strong> won the 200 fly and (1:555) and the 100 fly (51.99).<strong> Tia Lindsay<\/strong> won teh 200 IM (2:00.15). <strong>Julia Wozniak<\/strong>, Heimstead, <strong>Elisabeth Timmer<\/strong> and <strong>Maryam Scheikhalizadenkhangh<\/strong> won the 200 free relay (1:29.79). <strong>Brooke Earley<\/strong> won the 1-meter diving (281.10) and 3-meter diving (288.83).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More College News<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The No. 6 USC women&#8217;s swimming and diving team prevailed during their conference opener, defeating Arizona 159-139 in Tucson on Friday to win the dual.
