CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virg., Aug 4. UNIVERSITY of Virginia head swimming coach Mark Bernardino has announced the hiring of Sharon Krueger as assistant swimming coach. <\/p>\n
Krueger, who started at UVa on July 18, comes to Virginia after serving as assistant head coach at Georgia Tech the last three years. At UVa, Krueger's responsibilities will include coaching the sprint and middle distance freestylers as well as coordinating recruiting for both teams. Additionally, Krueger will be actively involved in the structure and formatting of dryland training and all other responsibilities associated with the swim team.<\/p>\n
While at Georgia Tech, Krueger's responsibilities included on-deck coaching and coordination of recruiting for the men's and women's swimming programs and designing dryland workouts. Krueger coached the 2003 men's ACC 100 backstroke champion and an All-ACC 100\/200 freestyler. In addition, she has coached Tech's only All-ACC women's swimmer.<\/p>\n
Prior to coaching the Yellow Jackets, Krueger spent 12 seasons as an assistant coach at Syracuse University. She helped coach three Olympians (two in 1996 and one in 2000) during her tenure with the Orangemen. In addition, Krueger handled all aspects of recruiting for the men's and women's teams as well as coaching daily swimming and dryland workouts.<\/p>\n
Krueger began her collegiate coaching career in East Lansing, Mich. as an assistant women's swimming coach at Michigan State. During two seasons at Michigan State, she had numerous NCAA qualifiers and was also responsible for the development and implementation of dryland workouts.<\/p>\n
Krueger graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse in 1980 with a degree in health and physical education. She earned a Master of Science in exercise science\/biomechanics from Michigan State in 1987.<\/p>\n
