He will continue in his main role, as the performance director for the French Swimming Federation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jacco-verhaeren-appointed-french-performance-director-ahead-of-paris-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a position he assumed in 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past few years, I have often exchanged ideas with Jacco,\u201d Jumbo-Visma sporting director <strong>Merijn Zeeman<\/strong> said <a href=\"https:\/\/wkzo.com\/2023\/10\/25\/cycling-swim-coach-verhaeren-dips-toe-into-cycling-world-with-jumbo-visma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a statement<\/a>. \u201cAfter our best season, we have to keep looking for improvements and new insights. Together with (head of performance) <strong>Mathieu Heijboer,<\/strong> I have come to the conclusion that Jacco can provide us with these new ideas and different insights from another sport. We will start with a modest collaboration and hopefully develop it into something more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jumbo-Visma in 2022 became the first team to have riders win all three Grand Tours, with <strong>Primos Roglic<\/strong> winning the Giro d\u2019Italia, <strong>Jonas Vingegaard<\/strong> repeating as Tour de France champion and American <strong>Sepp Kuss<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/olympics\/news\/sepp-kuss-vuelta-a-espana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winning the<\/a> Vuelta a Espana. (Roglic will ride for a different team next season.)<\/p>\n<p>Verhaeren has long been interested in cross-training and the implementation of interdisciplinary training methods. He&#8217;s also accomplished so much on the pool deck all across the world.<\/p>\n<p>The 54-year-old ushered in a golden age of Dutch swimming thanks to the likes of <strong>Pieter van den Hoogenband<\/strong> and <strong>Inge de Bruijn.<\/strong> From 2013-20, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/a-dream-job-and-a-legacy-built-a-look-at-the-jacco-verhaeren-era-of-aussie-swimming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he helped revitalize Australian swimming<\/a>, laying the groundwork for sensational performance at the Tokyo Olympics and the two World Aquatics Championships since.<\/p>\n<p>He consulted for the German Swimming Federation before the FFN hired him as part of its Ambition Bleue project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agencedusport.fr\/ambition-bleue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ahead of its home Games<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to immerse myself in Team Jumbo-Visma\u2019s approach because I can benefit from it,\u201d Verhaeren said. \u201cThe link between equipment, nutrition, training and race strategy is fascinating. It inspires me a lot.
