{"id":571579,"date":"2023-10-25T12:29:11","date_gmt":"2023-10-25T19:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=571579"},"modified":"2023-10-25T14:24:53","modified_gmt":"2023-10-25T21:24:53","slug":"pan-american-games-day-5-finals-rachel-stege-breaks-meet-record-in-1500","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pan-american-games-day-5-finals-rachel-stege-breaks-meet-record-in-1500\/","title":{"rendered":"Pan American Games Day 5 Finals: Rachel Stege, Sydney Pickrem Break Meet Records; USA Wins Men&#8217;s Medley Relay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is the final session for the 2023 Pan American Games from Santiago, Chile.<\/p>\n<p>The finals will consist of the 1500 free, 200 IM and 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a look at the events:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/results-santiago2023.org\/#\/discipline\/SWM\/schedule\/daily\/2023-10-22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Full Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pan-american-games-day-1-paige-madden-sets-meet-record-in-thrilling-400-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day One Finals Recap<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pan-american-games-day-2-maggie-macneil-mary-sophie-harvey-double-up-on-gold-for-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day Two Finals Recap<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pan-american-games-day-3-finals-maggie-macneil-breaks-meet-record-in-100-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day Three Finals Recap<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pan-american-games-day-4-gabi-albiero-maggie-macneil-tie-for-50-free-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day Four Finals Recap<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 1500 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Rachel Stege<\/strong> started the final night with a bang, crushing the Pan American Games record in the 1500 free.<\/p>\n<p>Stege put together a swim of 16:13.59 to break the meark of 16:16.54 set by Argentina&#8217;s <strong>Delfina Pignatiello<\/strong> in 2019 to win the gold medal.<\/p>\n<p>Chile&#8217;s <strong>Kristel Kobrich<\/strong> took the silver in 16:14.59, also under the previous meet record.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s <strong>Viviane Jungblut<\/strong> claimed the bronze in 16:19.89.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s <strong>Beatriz Pimentel<\/strong> took fourth (16:24.65), followed by Argentina&#8217;s <strong>Agostina Hein<\/strong> (16:35.63) and USA&#8217;s <strong>Erica Sullivan<\/strong> (16:41.21).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian women had a stellar week at the Pan American Games and capped that in the final women&#8217;s individual event with a 1-2 finish.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sydney Pickrem<\/strong> broke the meet record to win the 200 IM in 2:09.04, breaking the previous mark set by USA&#8217;s <strong>Caitlin Leverenz<\/strong> in 2015 (2:10.51).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mary-Sophie Harvey<\/strong> continued her stellar meet with a silver medal in the event, finishing in 2:11.93.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Kennedy Noble<\/strong> took the bronze in 2:14.19.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Canada made it a sweep of the 200 IM events when <strong>Finlay Knox<\/strong> claimed the gold medal in the men&#8217;s event. He got to the wall in 1:58.74.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Arsenio Bustos<\/strong> earned the silver medal in 1:59.89 to finish ahead of Brazil&#8217;s <strong>Leonardo<\/strong> <strong>Coelho<\/strong> (2:00.58), who claimed the bronze<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 1500 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s <strong>Guilherme Costa<\/strong> claimed the gold medal in the 1500 free, earning a three-second win. He got to the wall in 15:09.29.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Will Gallant<\/strong> took the silver medal in 15:12.93.<\/p>\n<p>Venezuela&#8217;s <strong>Alfonso Mestre<\/strong> won the bronze medal in 15:19.60.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217; 400 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Canada claimed the gold medal in the women&#8217;s 400 medley relay to close out the women&#8217;s portion of the Pan American Games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Danielle Hanus, Rachel Nicol, Maggie Mac Neil<\/strong> and <strong>Mary-Sophie Harve<\/strong>y teamed up to finish in 3:59.39 and finish the meet in winning fashion.<\/p>\n<p>Team USA earned the silver with <strong>Josephine Fuller, Emma Weber, Kelly Pash<\/strong> and<strong> Catie DeLoof<\/strong> getting to the wall in 3:59.39.<\/p>\n<p>Mexico&#8217;s <strong>Miranda Grana, Melissa Rodriguez, Maria Mata Cocco<\/strong> and<strong> Sofia Revilak<\/strong> earned the bronze in 4:04.73.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 400 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Team USA closed the meet with a gold medal in the men&#8217;s 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jack Aikins, Jake Foster, Lukas Miller<\/strong> and <strong>Jonathan Kulow<\/strong> got to the wall in 3:33.29.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s <strong>Guilherme Basseto, Joao Gomes, Vini Lanza<\/strong> and<strong> Gui Caribe<\/strong> took the silver in 3:35.12.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s <strong>Blake Tierney, Gabe Mastromatteo, Finlay Knox<\/strong> and <strong>Javier Acevedo<\/strong> took the bronze in 3:35.72.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is the final session for the 2023 Pan American Games from Santiago, Chile.
