The sprinters taking part in those relays will battle it out for individual honors Monday.<\/p>\n<p>American and Brazilian sprinters hold the top four spots in both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 100 freestyle events, which will kick off the third night of finals at Centro Aquatico in Santiago, Chile, Monday.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/results-santiago2023.org\/#\/discipline\/SWM\/schedule\/daily\/2023-10-22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Full Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pan-american-games-day-1-paige-madden-sets-meet-record-in-thrilling-400-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day One Finals Recap<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pan-american-games-day-2-maggie-macneil-mary-sophie-harvey-double-up-on-gold-for-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day Two Finals Recap<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Recapping the morning prelims action:<\/p>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 100 Freestyle<\/h4>\n<p>On Sunday, it was Brazil\u2019s <strong>Stephanie Balduccini<\/strong> who bested the U.S.\u2019s <strong>Amy Fulmer<\/strong> on the anchor leg of the mixed 400 free relay to earn Brazil the gold.<\/p>\n<p>Monday morning, Fulmer took the top time in prelims of the 100 in 54.78. Balduccini was third in 54.96, behind <strong>Ana Vieira\u2019s<\/strong> 54.89. Fourth was <strong>Catie DeLoof<\/strong> of the U.S. in 55.52.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t count out the Canadians. <strong>Maggie MacNeil<\/strong> grabbed the fifth seed in 55.73. Three-hundredths behind was <strong>Mary-Sophie Harvey,<\/strong> the 200 free champ.<\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 100 Freestyle<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Jonny Kulow<\/strong> led the way in prelims at 48.49 to secure a middle lane. He was .14 seconds up on <strong>Gui Caribe,<\/strong> .15 up on <strong>Marcelo Chierighini<\/strong> and .16 up on <strong>Brooks Curry.<\/strong> Expect a crowded final.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth is <strong>Andres Dupont<\/strong> of Mexico, with countryman <strong>Jorge Iga<\/strong> also in the mix.<\/p>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 200 Breaststroke<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Kelsey Wog<\/strong> led the way in prelims with a time of 2:25.96. The Canadian Olympian was .04 up on Brazil\u2019s <strong>Gabrielle Assis da Silva.<\/strong> Third was <strong>Sydney Pickrem<\/strong> in 2:28.35, with the Canadians certainly eying a chance to get two on the podium.<\/p>\n<p>The Americans will face an uphill battle to get in on the medals. <strong>Anna Keating<\/strong> was a distant fifth in 2:30.66. <strong>Emma Weber<\/strong> finished seventh in 2:31.65.<\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 200 Breaststroke<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Jake Foster<\/strong> is looking to sweep the breaststroke golds and put himself in a strong position to do so. He set the top time of 2:13.25. That was .15 up on <strong>Brayden Taivassalo<\/strong> of Canada. Foster\u2019s countryman and the 100 breast silver medalist, <strong>Noah Nichols,<\/strong> is sixth in 2:16.05. <strong>Roberto Bonilla<\/strong> of Guatemala is third in 2:14.83, just ahead of Mexican veteran <strong>Andres Puente Busamante.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 100 Backstroke<\/h4>\n<p>The Americans are sitting 1-2 after prelims and well ahead of the pack. <strong>Josephine Fuller<\/strong> clocked the top time of 1:00.17. <strong>Kennedy Noble<\/strong> followed her at 1:00.29, followed by a clean 1.5 seconds back to Canada\u2019s <strong>Madelyn Gatrall.<\/strong> It appears to be the Americans\u2019 race to lose.<\/p>\n<h4>Men\u2019s 100 Backstroke<\/h4>\n<p>Canada secured the top seed via <strong>Blake Tierney,<\/strong> who went 54.68 to lead the pack to the wall. The U.S.\u2019s <strong>Adam Chaney<\/strong> was second in 54.71, and <strong>Guilherme Basseto<\/strong> of Brazil was only .04 back of that in what promises to be a crowded final.<\/p>\n<p>Six tenths separate the top seven finishers. <strong>Chris O\u2019Connor<\/strong> of the U.S. is fourth in 54.96, followed by Argentina\u2019s <strong>Ulises Saravia, Gabriel Fantoni<\/strong> of Brazil and Colombia\u2019s <strong>Omar Pinzon.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Mixed 400 Medley Relay<\/h4>\n<p>The United States cruised to the top seed in the mixed medley relay by more than a second and a half. <strong>Jack Aikins, Arsenio Bustos, Olivia Bray<\/strong> and <strong>Kayla Wilson<\/strong> went 3:51.75 to garner the center lane.
