﻿{"id":570837,"date":"2023-10-14T21:59:44","date_gmt":"2023-10-15T04:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=570837"},"modified":"2023-10-14T21:59:44","modified_gmt":"2023-10-15T04:59:44","slug":"tennessee-women-louisville-men-split-quick-long-course-meet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tennessee-women-louisville-men-split-quick-long-course-meet\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennessee Women, Louisville Men Split Quick Long Course Meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Tennessee Women, Louisville Men Split Quick Long Course Meet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tennessee\u2019s women\u2019s team and Louisville\u2019s men won a tight nonleague dual meet <a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/news\/2023\/10\/12\/swimming-diving-tennessee-splits-dual-meet-with-louisville.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Thursday<\/a>, contested in long-course meters.<\/p>\n<p>The Tennessee women claimed a narrow 152-148 win, while the Louisville men prevailed, 156-144.<\/p>\n<p>For the Lady Vols, a fast start to the meet furnished by the distant contingent did the job.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/tennessee-vs-louisville\/ncaa-college\/2023\/October\/12?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/acc-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACC Swimming<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/sec-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SEC Swimming<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Kate McCarville<\/strong> led a 1-2-3 result in the 800 freestyle with a time of 8:53.24. <strong>Brooklyn Douthwright<\/strong> followed by winning the 200 free in 2:00.90, with teammate <strong>Julia Mrozinski<\/strong> following her. Mrozinski would also finish second in the 500 free ahead of <strong>Lauren Wetherell,<\/strong> who was third in both that and the 800.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mona McSharry<\/strong> helped Tennessee start the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, teaming with <strong>Josephine Fuller, Katie Mack<\/strong> and <strong>Camille Spink<\/strong> to go 1:49.66.<\/p>\n<p>McSharry won the 100 breast in 1:07.20 (teammate <strong>Emelie Fast<\/strong> was second) and added the 200 breast title in 2:28.73.<\/p>\n<p>Fuller won the 100 back in 1:00.58, edging <strong>Paige Hetrick<\/strong> by .32 seconds. Fuller also won the 200 back in 2:12.66 and the 200 individual medley in 2:14.34. <strong>Sara Stolter<\/strong> won the 200 fly in 2:15.33 and was third in the 100 fly. McCarville was third in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n<p>Diving and sprinting allowed Louisville to keep it close. The Cardinals took the top three spots (and top four times) in the 50 free, led by <strong>Gabi Albiero\u2019s<\/strong> 25.12. <strong>Christiana Regenauer<\/strong> followed in 25.52, .05 up on <strong>Lucy Mehraban.<\/strong> Albiero won the 100 free in 55.26, four tenths up on Mehraban.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Else Praasterink<\/strong> won both diving events. She scored 316.73 to outlast Tennessee\u2019s <strong>Lynae Shorter<\/strong> in 3-meter, then authored a 1-2 with <strong>Lindsay Gizzi<\/strong> on 1-meter with a winning score of 291.53.<\/p>\n<p>After finishing second in the 100 back, Hetrick won the 100 fly in 59.74 ahead of Regenauer. <strong>Summer Cardwell<\/strong> won the 400 free in 4:16.63. Mehraban, Regenauer, <strong>Ella Welch<\/strong> and Hetrick went 1:41.10 to edge the Vols by .29 for the win in the 200 free relay, with Albiero\u2019s lead off of 25.16 leading the B relay to third in an attempt to go 1-2.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s meet was dominated by a small group, with four swimmers (three of them Cardinals) winning two events each.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville\u2019s <strong>Ilia Sibirtsev<\/strong> won the 800 free in 8:06.95 and the 400 free in 3:55.78. The latter was a great race, edging Tennessee\u2019s Joaquin Vargas by .32 seconds. <strong>Denis Petrashov<\/strong> swept breaststroke, going 1:01.90 in the 100 and 2:16.89 in the 200. <strong>Jackson Millard<\/strong> did the same in back, going 55.93 and 2:01.93.<\/p>\n<p>Millard, Petrashov, <strong>Dalton Lowe<\/strong> and <strong>Matias<\/strong> <strong>Santiso<\/strong> delivered an impressive 200 medley relay in 1:39.85.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville also got a tidy diving win thanks to <strong>Adam Sneden<\/strong> scoring 344.33 points on 1-meter to edge <strong>Bryden Hattie<\/strong> by less than four points. (Hattie and <strong>Nick Stone<\/strong> went 1-2 on 3-meter for the Vols.) <strong>Denis Loktev<\/strong> won the 200 free in 1:48.69 in a 1-2 with <strong>Murilo Sartori,<\/strong> who was third in the 100 free. Santiso was second in the 100 free and third in the 50.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jordan Crooks<\/strong> won the 50 free for the Volunteers in 22.54. He was fourth in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n<p>That event was won <strong>Martin Espernberger<\/strong> in 53.77 in a 1-2 with <strong>Bjoern Kammann.<\/strong> Espernberger also won the 200 fly in a fast 1:57.47.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gui Caribe<\/strong> won the 100 free in 49.38. <strong>Landon Driggers<\/strong> won the 200 IM, beating Millard after he had bested him int eh 200 back.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee finished the meet by winning a sensational 400 free relay.
