It is being moved back a day to Dec. 2-3 and will take place in Funchal.<\/p>\n<p>The events will include a men\u2019s and women\u2019s 10-kilometer events, followed by a mixed 4 x 1,500 relay. As the final event, it will also be where World Aquatics gives out season winners, including the men\u2019s and women\u2019s winners and new World Cup Sprint Champion and the World Cup Junior Champion in both men\u2019s and women\u2019s categories.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldaquatics.com\/news\/3735189\/funchal-portugal-chosen-as-venue-for-final-leg-of-world-aquatics-open-water-swimming-world-cup-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>, World Aquatics cited, \u201censuring athlete safety remains the paramount concern\u201d in the decision to move the events away from Eliat.<\/p>\n<p>The event is the fifth of the World Aquatics Open Water World Cup. The fourth leg, slated for August in the River Seine in Paris, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/open-water-test-race-in-paris-cancelled-due-to-poor-water-quality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cancelled due to untenable conditions at the venue<\/a>. Setubal, Portugal, hosted Leg 3 in May, after stops in Egypt\u2019s Soma Bay and Golfo Aranci, Italy.<\/p>\n<p>World Aquatics most recently held the World Junior Championships in Netanya, Israel. There\u2019s precedent for moving an event out of the area due to simmering tensions, with the 2014 Junior Open Water World Championships <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tensions-in-israel-force-fina-to-relocate-junior-open-water-world-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moved from Eliat to Hungary by FINA<\/a>. Fighting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2023\/10\/12\/israel-gaza-war-updates-hamas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas group<\/a> has claimed hundreds of lives in recent days.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the individual point races are extremely close heading into the final event of the season. <strong>Sharon van<\/strong> <strong>Rouwendaal<\/strong> of the Netherlands, for instance, leads Germany\u2019s <strong>Leonie Beck<\/strong> by only 10 points in the women\u2019s competition, while three women are tied for the
