{"id":570589,"date":"2023-10-09T11:55:59","date_gmt":"2023-10-09T18:55:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=570589"},"modified":"2023-10-09T11:55:59","modified_gmt":"2023-10-09T18:55:59","slug":"georgetown-claims-pair-of-wins-over-howard-in-second-battle-at-the-burr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/georgetown-claims-pair-of-wins-over-howard-in-second-battle-at-the-burr\/","title":{"rendered":"Georgetown Claims Pair of Wins over Howard in Second Battle at the Burr"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Georgetown Claims Pair of Wins over Howard in Second Battle at the Burr<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Georgetown came out with a pair of wins over Washington, D.C., rival Howard in the second Battle at the Burr <a href=\"https:\/\/guhoyas.com\/news\/2023\/10\/7\/swimming-diving-swimming-and-diving-captures-second-straight-victory-at-the-battle-of-the-burr.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Hoyas\u2019 men\u2019s team claimed a 125-99 win, while the women prevailed, 127-97.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s meet was controlled early on by Howard. The Bison women started in emphatic fashion <a href=\"https:\/\/hubison.com\/news\/2023\/10\/7\/womens-swimming-and-diving-bison-set-record-at-battle-of-the-burr.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by setting a school record<\/a> in the 200 medley relay with the team of <strong>Chanice Posada, Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson, Zuilda Nwaeze <\/strong>and <strong>Isabella Fountain<\/strong> going 1:43.69, slashing 2.31 seconds off the mark from last year\u2019s conference meet. Howard won three individual events in the front half of the meet before the pendulum swung back to Georgetown.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/battle-at-the-burr-ii-georgetown-at-howard-2023\/ncaa-college\/2023\/October\/7?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Battle at the Burr Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Erin Hood<\/strong> was a big reason why. She won the 500 freestyle in 5:07.54, a 1-2 with teammate <strong>Sophia Ribiero.<\/strong> The very next event, she outdueled Thompson by .09 seconds to win the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.35.<\/p>\n<p>The tide turned with a pair of Georgetown 1-2s after the men\u2019s diving break. <strong>Genevieve Youngman<\/strong> and <strong>Angelica Reali<\/strong> went 1-2 in a hectic 100 butterfly, Youngman winning in 56.67 and Reali edging Nwaeze by .02 for second in 56.69. <strong>Madeline Malone<\/strong> and <strong>Isabella Wiley<\/strong> went 1-2 in the 100 free, then <strong>Maddie Haley<\/strong> outtouched Posada by .22 in 58.47 in the 100 backstroke.<\/p>\n<p>Georgetown also went 1-2 in the 1,000 free via <strong>Kira Agne<\/strong> and <strong>Ashley Vensel. Liz Durgin<\/strong> led a 1-2-3 sweep of 1-meter diving.<\/p>\n<p>Nwaeze won the 200 free in 153.51. Fountain followed with a 23.99 to win the 50 ahead of Wylie, and Thompson claimed the 200 individual medley in a sensational race with Georgetown\u2019s <strong>Alex Breuer,<\/strong> outtouching her by a tenth in 2:08.62.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s race started with the dramatic, Howard winning the opening 200 medley relay by .01 seconds.<strong> Tristan Stevens, Mark-Anthony Thompson, Taj Benton <\/strong>and <strong>Arion Solomon<\/strong> went 1:31.96 to get the win. Howard would also finish the meet by winning the 200 free relay in 1:23.66 (Solomon, <strong>Spencer Miles<\/strong>, Benton, Stevens).<\/p>\n<p>Georgetown stamped its authority on the meet with a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 IM, led by <strong>Jack Brearton\u2019s<\/strong> time of 1:54.71. The Hoyas also went 1-2 in the 1,000 free, led by <strong>Jack Januario\u2019s<\/strong> 9:56.25. <strong>Connor Jelig<\/strong> won the 500 free in 4:43.55.<\/p>\n<p>Bailey De Luise helped seal the meet by leading a 1-2 in the 100 breast in 56.90. <strong>Grant Closson<\/strong> won the 100 free, and <strong>Shaun Kroenwetter<\/strong> won the 50 free.<\/p>\n<p>Howard got an early win from <strong>Mason Green<\/strong> in the 200 free (1:42.44). He finished second to Benton (49.98) in the 100 fly.
